At last! I've got one!

I have just bought a 2000, 17600m Firestorm :D . It's the third bike i've had, the previous two being Yamahas (RXS100, YX600 Radian). The 4 cylinder Yamaha served it's purpose but was old, mundane and boring..... I needed a bike with a pulse, i needed a 1000cc V twin. (and i love bikes with twin exhausts)
My eyes were only for the Firestorm. The only other consideration was an SV1000 but in my opinion they look crap. Oh, there was a Tuono nearby but the Firestorm was half the price and made by Honda.
I only picked it up on Monday but riding the short journey home i knew this was money well spent.
It feels so modern to me (previous bike was 1986 and US import :sad2 ) with everything feeling balanced and well screwed together.
The exhausts are rather fruity. The kids were excited and waiting for me to return with a new bike, so when i did, they just looked terrified and betrayed.
Been working away all week so haven't ridden it since picking it up :sad2

I can't wait to ride it again and learn the handling and the engine.
I'm fairly mechanically minded and like to service and fix things myself, but i'm hoping i won't need to fix anything too soon....

Nothing like a man with a new toy

You picked the right bike, the Storm is often overlooked and understated but it's turning into a classic.

Welcome to the forum and don't forget to post some photos

Welcome tryhsggsjf! What's the name?

Good choice, welcome to the Storm side :D do check the can chain tensioners are manuals (workshop section has everything you'll need to know) and reg/rec is not the flatty one, but finned. Again - workshop section.

Couple of things, where are you located? And forget fruitiness, what everyone wants to know is what colour clan are you with? If it's black you'll be lauded, yellow sniggered at, blue will attract abuse, red will attract dust given terminal velocity of that one, orange nuff said, teal be in permanent denial. Missed one?

Welcome again :D

You didn't mention Silver.

Good plan - pretend they don't exist

Was preparing myself to put up with a yellow one, but glad someone bought it before me. And sooo glad i found this one.
I'm going to be be losing sleep over the cam chain tensioners....
The engine sounds healthy enough though.

It's a well known fact that Honda invented "Yellow" and then designed the Storm to keep up with it.

Welcome to the forum. You have the faster of the Blues there. Nice looking bike.

Quickest and easiest thing for you to do is a stopper which will give you peace of mind. Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)

CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!

You can either go for the stop mod http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720

Then with regards to fitting View Topic View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8326

CCT's are they only real concern with these bikes because failure cost is a lot more than a preventive measure/fix. Otherwise these are really solid and reliable bikes and lots of fun to ride.
