Hi from OXFORD to all & VTR owner met @ Kidlington bike shop

Post by johnfish »

Hi folks

I met a guy at the bike shop in Kidlington last week who is a member on here. He let me have a sit on his VTR and I knew I had to get one. So despite having a 3 yr old and a wife with a bun in the oven, I went out and got an absolute minter:
1999
25k
Black
Loads of extras thrown in including genuine Honda saddle bags.

The previous owner spent loads on it and it really looks and rides great. Here comes the CCT question (yes I did search here first!). He had fitted the "latest orange dot" CCTs. He told me David Silver recommends them... Any thoughts guys?

Anyhow, I FXkin love this bike, I'm not really experienced enough to give it some so I'm going really easy on the throttle... Pictures to follow!

Welcome Mr Fish :Fish:

Do take it easy until you get used to it

I had my original CCT's (white dot) changed about 4 years ago to the orangey dot ones but for peace of mind I have recently done the 'stopper mod'

You could also fit manual ones. I think most here would agree that either stopper mod or manuals is worth doing as it's not expensive, but if they do fail then you will be lucky to avoid engine damage and you will still need to replace the CCT anyway.

Don't forget the pictures.

Welcome to the madhouse mate. Enjoy your bike, don't be in a rush to start giving it the beans everywhere, take your time.
The CCT question will be answered shortly, by many. Loads of info and helpful people here .

Greetings

Pink dots, lilac dots, white dots, orange dots etc. forget em. If David Silvers have something official in writing from Honda stating orange dotted CCts are guaranteed to be impervious to imploding then you should ask for a copy. From experience CCTs are prone to catastrophic failure from as little as 7000 miles. On the other hand some don't but should they let go it happens without any prior warning generally causing inconvenient & costly valve damage. Some people recommend OEM CCTs are changed every 35000 miles or so but fitting manual or stopper modded ones take out the risk of harm coming to your engine if they fail.

and then there's the stopper mod - all available inc fitting guide in the workshop knowledgebase section of the forum.

PS

If your R/R looks like this http://f.cl.ly/items/262r2R1b2X0W132t1i0V/vtr-R-R.jpg dump it and get a later finned version.

As said get the swapped, riding around on manuels i was constantly waiting for it to let go every ride, once fitted Manuals total relief never worry about it again!

Stopper mod is almost free to make and if you want some bling get some shiny Manual ones (they are all as good as each other)
