VIN numbers Honda firestorms

Post by Saintsman27 »

Hi all, I have a couple of Storms lined up for viewing that have caught
my eye. I would like the learned members of the group to appraise
me of the position and location of VIN , on these machines , that is frame and
chassis numbers so that I may do safety and legal checks before parting
with my hard earned cash.
I am well aware of my legal duties but not being familiar with the machines
any help would be really appreciated. Are all storms the same or can the location
of the VIN's differ..... Should the VIN's be really obvious or will I need some oily
rags to wipe away crud and the like.
I have researched the Honda website and found a web site that one can enter
these numbers.. 17 numbers are mentioned but I can count .
Any help would be appreciated. Also general points to be aware of.

Not aware of the location, but why not simply use the registration plate on mytextcheck or whatever it is instead? That's what I did when purchasing my storm recently

And to decipher the VIN code, as an example JH2SC36A4VM8******

JH2: country of production (JH2=WMI Honda Japan, 1HF=Honda America, ZDC=Honda Italy, VTM=Montesa/Honda Spain)
SC36: type = VTR1000F)
A or B: early or late version
4: control number (1-9 or X)
T: year (T=1996, V=1997, W=1998, X=1999, Y=2000, 1=2001 ... 6=2006)
M: factory (M=Hamamatsu/Japan, K=Kumamoto/Japan, A=Ohio/USA, F=Atessa/Italy, E=Barcelona/Spain
000992: serial number

So mine JH2SC36A4VM8****** was an early version manufactured in '97 in Hamamatsu Japan.

and check the colour code sticker on the subframe, underneath the seat to check for resprays

PB257M Lapis Blue Metallic

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Just tell the buyer he has one chance, but only one chance, to tell you to your face that you should walk away, or not, because if you buy it as soon as you get to work you'll put the details through the Police computer in your office, and you of course are aware of where to find him.
just watch the reaction....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
