Hi everyone,

Well I dont have a firestorm yet but as soon as i sell the wifes car I will be straight out to get one. Its not as bad as it sounds, I am letting her have my car instead. I'm going to be using the storm to get between work in portsmouth and home in plymouth. To that end I will be ploughing through the advice on here before getting out and buying one.

Welcome to the forum. Have a good look around the Workshop knowlagebase plenty of info on here. VTR's are a great bike and fun to ride. Not the best for distance stuff but quite feasible. Personally if I was doing that sort of distance on a regular basis in all weathers, I would get a VFR, but that's just me. In an Ideal world I would have two. A VTR for fun and big grins and a VFR for the distance stuff.

the things we used to say when we were little make no sense now and are real funny when you hear you kids say them but with a different meaning !

I know the road well and I don't think the VTR would be the best tool for the job, but...

I know deep down that a VTR is a pretty crap choice for the journey but I can only afford one bike for the next few years so I decided to choose one that I've wanted for a long time. Plus when it comes to bikes, where is the fun in sensible? With regards to selling the wife it will probably be easier to sell the car and as I'm fairly confident she wont see this i can say, the car will probably fetch more.

welcome in. these bikes are relatively dead cheap so you should be able to get a good one for not a lot. the brains on here are 2nd to none for tech advice. you can always bung higher bars on the bike to make it a bit more comfy for long distance?

Yup, I think wife prices are same as convertible cars. Better price in the spring and early summer when you start to imagine them with the top down

However, whereas bikes reach a point in life where they start to hold on to their value and become collectors items........

Not too sure that's the case with "er indoors"

Mines got to the stage where I just want to throw a blanket over it, shut the door and walk away!!
