LED Security Lights

Post by seb421 »

Hello has anyone by chance got one of these?

http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/lighting/o ... d=13029347

thinking of getting two or three tomorrow

would it be okay to wire up all three to run off one plug?

I'd speak to a sparky about the wiring, last thing you want is to overload the circuit & start a fire ! 8O

Also have a shop around B&Q are generally quite expensive, you should be able to get the same thing cheaper elsewhere & save a few bob.

6 Bulbs at 0.5W each? Yes, I reckon you could run 9W total through a single plug. A 13A plug copes ok with a welder!

Yes, to the above, they are not cheap, have a look around.

Hi seb
A 13 amp plug will give a maximum load of around 3kw (3000 watts). So 6 bulbs per fitting = 3watts. Don't get 1000 lights! It will be quite safe to link several together. Just make sure you get good connections. Outdoor boxes. Proper glands for cables, drill the bottom of the box, 3 glands mains in mains out & light. Some outdoor weather proof connection boxes have terminals built into them. When you fix them to a wall, use the correct mounting hole, as there will be sealing cups to fit inside to maintain the ip rating (waterproof).
If it all goes back to a plug, i would fit an rcd type or rcd spur.
If you have a problem with the lights you can isolate from the rest of the house. If the house has a rcd on the mains, you may lose all electric & be unable to reset until faulty bits are isloated.
We use bigger versions of these lights at work. Light quality is good. Never used any that small. Maybe start with one & see how good it is. You could always swap for a better one if you have to.& add to it.

Did you read the reviews? One wrote that is was about as bright as a 30w normal bulb.

Additionally get one of these...

sounds like this worrying about thieves lark is driving you bonkers

try chaining the garage door shut from the inside and then have some sort of battery operated motion sensor alarm that would only go off if the baddies are actually in the garage which they wont be able to anyway. then if you hear the alarm you can go into stick/gun/baseball bat/num-chuks mode. if the bike is locked up within the garage its not a five minute job to nick it anyway.

those lights are dear at 30 quid a pop if you ask me.
