hi from a newbie :D
i have just picked up a 99 silver firestorm after selling my zx9r ninja iv been looking on this forum for about a week so thought it was time to introduce my self  my name is ian i live in guildford surrey have had so many bikes since i past my test about 10 years ago i think they call it mid life crises  my trouble is i cant leave them alone all ways modding and tinkering with them :) . i don't no why but just love the feel and sound of a v twin over a 4 cylinder and seem to always go back to them
i have had the bike for 3 weeks now and since having it iv put a belly pan on. put new cans on as the ones that were on were carbon art cans and had a big split down the seem were the packing inside had burnt through tried stubying them but the sound of them was way to loud and was asking to be pulled by my friends the old bill  . iv started putting it in to primer ready to paint it in graphite black and want to paint the frame satin back but the frame will have to wait till winter as i want to strip the bike down engine out and all that
opps i seem to be going on a tad bit so will stop now :)

Welcome to the forum Ian. There are a couple of routine mods you need to complete to ensure the bike runs smoothly, CCT's, RR and suspension linkage bearings, after that the Worlds your oyster as far as mods go from the stick coils up to Mario Nava carbon bodywork and anything in between. Have a look at the pimpsection for ideas.

welcome to the forum buddy, rr means regulator/rectifier, they're a weak spot, its found on the side of the rear subframe behind the rear fairing.
if its an early model and flat, it should be replaced for at least the later upgrade finned version, otherwise it could cook your battery/electrics, iirc a cbr125 rr is a straight fit.
sounds like you have big plans, as kev said, loads of mods for this bike including things like a vfr800 single sided swingarm. cbr954 front end. upgraded brakes. the list is endless and the bikes really easy to work on....

Got really confused by this post.. first message at 12:19am and most recent at 9:48am...

Then I remembered some of the people here are too old for bed times   I feel like an idiot..

Welcome to the forum  If modding is your thing then you're in the right place, there aren't that many standard VTR's on here. Most people have done at least one thing to it

If you wait a short while Private Frazer ,aka LeeVTR, will be along to give the opposite view on mods. " aye we're doomed if you change the bike you know! Those Japanese engineers are all powerful, doomed I tell you, doomed!".
For those too young/dumb to understand the above reference Frazer was a character in the Dads Army series renowned for his negative response to most situations. Where he was from is of no consequence as I don't want to start another Virt like international incident!!!!

My job requires a constant consuming of caffeine, when it gets to about 8pm I usually struggle to stay awake from the caffeine crash  So I stay awake, barely, until 11 and then wake up at 6  Sleep is nice
