New to the world of VTR's. Just bought a 2000 with 11.5k miles in really good condition.
Can't believe the torque these bikes possess, not sure why they ever fitted brakes
Anyway I have only ever had trailie type bikes, DR750! XR650L (US import) Triumph Tiger(my brothers really) oh..and a Triumph America, great bike.
I always said I would never get a sports bike but a few weeks ago I started looking for an old school bike, something like a GPZ900, Triumph Daytona 900, Ducati 900SS, then I found the hidden V twins, TL1000, the TRX850 and the Aprillia Mille.
Anyway I have always liked Hondas so went with the more reasonable Firestorm and very glad I did.
For someone who has never straddled a sports bike let alone ridden one, after the first hour I was in heaven, it's so easy to ride and the combination of power and torque is right up my street.
I love it basically, can't wait to get out on it again. Seems to be a good bike, looks more like 2yrs old, not 13






As always there are a couple of things I need to ask about
1. It seems to make a jingle/rattle noise when in gear and moving, goes if you pull in the clutch and also on overrun. Is this normal transmission noise? It's not loud,just irritating, you can hear it over the engine/exhaust.

2. The front brake pads seem to make an abrasive noise (hiss) when braking lightly. Is this the pads? they are a gold colour and have about 3mm left.

Can't work out how to add a photo of the bike? tried Img ?? Done it but they are so small

hello and welcome, the clutch noise is normal, you must make sure you get your cct's changed to manuals or at least the stopper mod, check it out in the workshop section....
firestorms are very underated real world bikes, sounds like you got yourself a nice one.

The hiss is normal for hh pads and 3mm will last a long time .
As for the rattle where is it coming from ?

Thanks for the quick response guys, I thought the rattle was clutch noise, pleased about that.
Pads normal, good too.
I have read about the CCT's, seems like every machine has it's Achilles Heel, I have a Porsche Boxter which are renowned for suffering IMS (Intermediate Shaft Bearing) Failure.
I will get on and get them done (CCT's) when the weather turns bad, I couldn't face not being able to take it out while it's warm and dry.
By the way, I live up the Yarrow Valley, between Selkirk and Moffat (St Mary's Loch area) in the lovely Scottish Borders.

Enjoy your storm and attend to the CCT's as soon as you can. Then have a search for "regulator rectifier" in the search bar, change that for a finned type if not already. Then you've got a bullet proof beast

and for fitting DIY instructions are in the workshop knowledgebase, and can be done in half a day without any special tools.

Also if you have an unfinned R/R best replace/upgrade that ASAP as they have a nasty habit of cooking off.

If the rattle noise goes when the clutch is pulled in, then it is a normal clutch rattle, but you should do the stopper mod on the CCT just to get that worry out of your head.

And the hiss noise is a sign it has EBC hh pads fitted.

Enjoy the bike, you have the roads for it....I took some of the lads out to the Buddist temple at Eskdalemuir 2 weeks ago and they loved the roads

Welcome sounds like you have chosen the right bike. Ideal bike for your first sprorts
Everyone has pretty much covered everything. Don't worry about the clutch rattle. Sounds like your brakes could do with a service. Have got braided lines. It would be a good idea to strip the callipers, inspect and clean, stick some fresh fluid in.

Looks like I'm on inks duty then.

Stick around here and you can't go wrong, plenty of advice and guidance and members willing to help out.

CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!

Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
