Dyno jetting?

Post by ktd001 »

Dumb question of the day>

What IS dyno jetting? :?
I know it's supposed to improve performance but how?
Is it worthwhile?
Does it make the storm drink less? 8O

All answers that don't contain the word 'elephant' gratefully received

Deserving case

Ha! How did I guess that you would be first!!??

Seriously, it's one of those things like 'tankslapper' that, until you have one, no bugger ever tells you what it is!
I just got fed up with nodding knowledgably every time someone says they've had their bike dynoed

A Dyno is a special kind of jet engin that you can fit. Goes really fast but drinks loads of fuel.

He's not back till monday, lets all talk about him behind his back......

I'm not technical but don't like to leave you hangin' for the weekend... :biggrin

Basically a Dynojet Kit is a set of needles & springs (+ something else of which I forget the name) which replace the standard ones in your carbs. This changes the fueling. Best results are had when you change the standard airfilter for a K&N filter (more air flows through) and fit aftermarket pipes/cans which help in freeing up the engine by letting it 'breath' more...

Now that there is a change in the Air & petrol flow you need to set up the carbs. This is when you get the bike Dynoed. (put on to a rolling road)
A Mechanic will take the bike through the rev rang and set the carbs up for the best fuel/air mix to increase power, throttle response and even out flat spots...

All this knowledge can be bought for £4-ish every month - any bike mag will do

Ha! Caught you Sooperman!

THANK YOU!!! Been riding for years, read the press (MCN, Bike, Ride etc) all the time. It's just that, with a few things, they always assume everyone knows what they mean. Let's face it, if you've just passed your test and none of your mates have got bikes, how the hell would you know what 'sticky' tyres are? 8O

Ok, I'm really going now. Take it away'soop!

Dyno jet explained.

The sucky slidey bits that attach to the revvy noisy bit have a bit of a sinus problem when they leave the factory so you can buy thingamy bobs that you use to change the what nots in the sucky slidey bits, all these bits work better when you attach loud spit-n-farten-coughen tubes to the back of the shiney bits of the, now even noisier revvy thing. And if you fit a foamy cleaner thingy to the big black bit lurking under the petrol holding whatnot this makes it all the better.

No excuses now for not knowing

Iggy, have you ever thought of writing for Haynes?
Just realised that your info made more sense than my Haynes manual :?
