Well, I've ordered a mosfet one from the states. When it turns up, I'll put stone pics of my fitting attempts in my pimping thread.

So original unfinned ones are crap
Some of the R1 alternatives are also crap?!
MOSFET ones are expensive!

Is a 2006 CBR125 finned version a best cheaper/alternative replacement? Am I right thinking this is just a plug and play replacement with same connection and ability to use original bolt holes?

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

One thing I would do is cut the connector block off and heatshrink/ solder the wires. Every Honda I have had has cooked the 3 pin connector, which is why I think the regulators fail, the bad connection heats up the r/r and the 3 pin plug.

If you want straight plug n play....yes. But as rollingthuder mentioned the plugs are not all that. I would be tempted to use an R1 R/R, at least it has a larger surface area to dissipate heat and there's just as much of a risk as failing as any other Non Mosfet R/R.
