I believe there is a 2 week period of cooling off.
Mind you saying that it may be from the day he signed for the finnance.

There's usually a 2 week cooling off period on a finance agreement but as storming Honda said most agreements state from when it was signed .

Only if he hasn't driven it....
Remember that once it's been registered in his name it's devalued, so he won't get the whole value back. You lose a packet on a new car just driving it off the forecourt.

There is a 14 day cooling off period on a finance agreement, But not on an order form for the vehicle so that means you can cancel the finance but you have to pay by other form of payment

I was thinking along similar lines, if he has it put into his name ect, ect, ect. The he may have to suck lemons on it, if the car is brand new from a dealer he can do quite a lot about it, phone the finnance company and surrender the keys, but he will have to give a good reason for the finnance company to get involved.
Second hand it all becomes complicated.

he,s rights are different if he signed the agreement in his home or at the garages premises. (to protect people against high pressure door to door sales type gits).
I,m guessing if he bought from a dealer he paid top dollar so hard to get what he paid back.
hope he gets sorted. I,ve found some older folk are nearly as impulsive as youngsters, my stepfather has lost bundles on cars/campervans in the last ten years
