Fork Protectors - How to get them off!

Post by Mav617 »

Probably a silly question, but how do you get the fork protectors off? The Haynes manual just says "remove the fork protectors", which is helpful. Do they slide up or down, as in my case they don't seem to want to go anywhere! Is it possible to get them off to reuse on my other (nice, clean) lowers?

They sit in a groove so they wont just pull off. I heated mine with a heat gun to soften them then prise them off (upwards).

Thanks Templ8, same procedure in reverse to get them back on (heat and push down into groove)?

They pop off, upwards. Use a piece of wood or something so you don't damage anything and knock them up with a hammer.

Exactly that, no point in heating.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
