Post Crash Update

Post by parkergb6 »

Thought I'd just put up an update as the where I've got to with my bikes now...
Today I finally re-assembled second storm that I bought with a front CCT failure to make sure it runs after all the help from you with timing marks etc and it fired up quite nice. Still got to give it a good clean and do other adjustments. I've fitted adapter plug to front cylinder to allow for easy Carb balancing however it currently only has one of the caps bought from carb-tune. I've just ordered the vacuum hose from Ebay £1.75 for 1mtr
On that point it appears I now have three 5mm brass adapters with caps if anyone needs one £3 including postage.

I think I need to change the fuel as it may have been sat in the tank of the bike for over 7 months and this may contribute to why the bike at idle seems to be "hunting" or this could be the the carbs need balancing. Any thoughts or input appreciated
I need to test/adjust the TPS as well.
new chain sprocket and oil and filter. It currently has a K&N air filter. Am I right in thinking these are life long and just need cleaning.
Got to fit the braided lines which I bought off of Jamoi who I believe bought off of MAC, so also need to get the Banjo bolts and washers ordered.

Once this is done this just needs MOT and tax and away it goes.
The other one is mostly fixed and running but I still need the yellow fairing sides and this will be good to go or I may consider converting this to a street fighter style to save on the fairing but will need to hunt the forums for some ideas/help in relation to this.
I also need a gear shift pedal if anyone has one. All the linkage etc is ok its just the little bit you hook you foot under snapped off in the collision, so if I cant get one cheap enough Ill drill through and put a bolt through with the rubber protector on it. Although not entirely essential I need to replace the right hand radiator and water pump outer housing as the ones Ive got are slighty bent and are weeping.

I know this has taken me a long time but I struggle to be out working on them too long due to the knee injury although physio is helping on that front.

My workshop is a bit crowded at the moment as I have both storms in there and tucked away is a CG125 in bits that me and my lad were supposed to be restoring before this happened.

Onwards and upwards just glad they are both running now.

I welcome any thoughts input or suggestions or comments as usual .
Thanks for listening to my ramblings

http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm (I use a pattern cleaner and oil kit every few years)

Is the bike jetted for the K&N? and from your descriptions sounds worth balancing the carbs.

Could get interesting if weeping turned into a gush, or if coolant gets in the crankcase oil or on the rear tire.

Both the radiator and water pump housing are bent slightly where the coolant pipe connects ie not perfectly round so therefore a tight seal cant be made. I may just try to round it out again. As I say they are only weeping so not too concerned at the moment as I cant ride at the minute so no major rush. Hopefully you guys interested in the adaptors have got your PMs by now.
Cheers

Does anyone know where to get the little bits off foam that go inside the airbox.
I think they are part no 10 on the microfiche.
Thanks

Get some sponge filter and cut it to shape.

Small aquarium shop sponge filters do the trick or you can order a sheet of filter foam off eBay.

Have now completely stripped the rear end out to enable a bloody good clean.Previous owner not so fussy I guess.
Had the boy cleaning the headers and to be fair to him he has done a great job, will have a go with a polishing kit. Then get him onto the ART cans. Noticed that the exhaust was blowing from the lowest point/joint so need to order new carbon gasket things. New exhaust studs in the front head.
Chains cleaned and will get onto swing arm this weekend. Bloody typical as I fired it up yesterday heard a pop and it looks like the rectifier fried the battery, so new battery on order as well as rectifier.
Some very kind assistance from AMCQ46 a carb balancer on way. That will be next job. Already done TPS got as close as I could with 492 ohms and adaption to the front cylinder done to make the job easier.
Rear wheel stripped and cleaned and sprocket carrier spotless.
Oil drained at moment,as is coolant, getting new fluids tomorrow to refill.
Once rear end is cleaned will strip the front and probably replace head bearings. Was considering changing the fork oil but may wait.
Currently bike is sat on two breeze blocks below the sump and various fairing pieces hung up awaiting the boy to clean them.
Taking longer than expected due to the knee but quite enjoying this flurry of activity now I know it runs.

Hopefully not boring you all too much with my upates.
Cheers
