OK follow the bouncing ball.
Early year VTR speedo face is pretty easy to read with a quick look.
Later year VTR speedo face is more compact, numbers closer together and smaller making it harder to read at a glance.
A Speedo Healer or other like device can alter the speedo signal to "match" gearing, but I think it might have enough range to match altered needle position on a new gauge face as well.
In general, a VTR does not have the ability to go 180 MPH and further mine as geared tops out at 145 MPH, so 150 and up is "wasted space"
Ok so Wicky ... would you be willing and able to make a gauge face for the later design speedo, using available space for a range of 0-155 MPH (or maybe 150, 160, what ever works out best)
That would give a much less cramped gauge face.

Re: speedo face removal & replace
ok so after posting and seeing the gauges up close side by side I think its not really a difference in text size..its that the cramped positioning of the KPH numbers too close to the MPH numbers (or other way around for you blokes.)
So I think the only thing needed is a gage face with just one set of numbers be it MPH or KPH...that gets rid of trying to really adjust the signal a wide range.
So now the same general question, are you interested in making a replacement face for the later design using only one set of numbers..obviously Id be looking for MPH

Re: speedo face removal & replace
If he can't, he is a bit of a whizz with these things but may need a template to start with & the later clocks are a bit rare s/h...E.Marquez wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 3:29 pm ok so after posting and seeing the gauges up close side by side I think its not really a difference in text size..its that the cramped positioning of the KPH numbers too close to the MPH numbers (or other way around for you blokes.)

Coudnt you just open it up & blank the KPH off ?
My non permenate way is a bit of tape marking the most relevent speeds...

Yes that's my thought as well - just get some black sticky back vinyl and cover superfluous inner segment of KM/H units and upper 170—180mph range.
Likely could be done without even needing to remove the needle.
MPH numbers are smaller on the later clocks mainly because they have to in a smaller segment size range - 230ish degrees instead of 260 degrees. And they don't use the alternating little large layout as used on early clocks.

Re: speedo face removal & replace
Yes and I might, just looking at what I think would be a cleaner option.
If i had a plotter Id cut a single piece of mat black vinyl and mask off all that I dont want to see.
I have used fluorescent red pin stripe take to mark two common speeds I travel...it works but it looks like ass, same as I think a bunch of black tape pieces would look.

Re: speedo face removal & replace
The number size difference is very light but there for sure.
If I had the means If make the layout with a smaller spread, no second set of numbers... just dropping the top end to something reasonable like 160 would give enough room to increase the font size, that and no second set of numbers would seal the deal.. But alas, I don't have the equipment or knowledge to do it..... But ahh, there is a guy i know that might

Re: speedo face removal & replace
from about 70+ there's room for larger numerals - but below that it would be cramped. Depends what numbers are important and need emphasis with enlarging.
Defiantly less busy without the KM/H inner ring

Re: speedo face removal & replace
My thought was not just a few larger numbers. But do away with the speeds the bike can not attain and spread out and enlarge all numbers using all available space

Re: speedo face removal & replace
Then you'll need to recalibrate to use the all the space as you stated
"A Speedo Healer or other like device can alter the speedo signal to "match" gearing, but I think it might have enough range to match altered needle position on a new gauge face as well."
That'll need a new drawn out speedo to match the different speeds between 0 — 180 (160)
That's feasible

I have a speedo healer V4 and a 12 O'Clock Labs SpeedoDRD H2 Speedometer Calibrator.. Ive played with the correction functions and I think both have the range to adjust to full sweep zero to 160
