Re: Gasket thickness.
I've used some 1mm standard paper gasket. I believe if you want to be really cheep Cornflakes card will do just fine as well

Re: Gasket thickness.
Nice one will bear that in mind.darkember wrote:I've used some 1mm standard paper gasket. I believe if you want to be really cheep Cornflakes card will do just fine as well

Re: Gasket thickness.
I used gasket paper for mine as well, but I know a lot of folks just use a smear of liquid gasket.

Some use liquid gasket. If I've been stuck I have made CCT gaskets out of a cereal pack before as Darkember mentions,

Thanks fellers it's the front one that's failed am I right in thinking there is not any oil sitting against it will gasket seal be good enough.

Re: Gasket thickness.
Yes mate it seals no problem either way. The only thing to remember is to use some sealant on the threads of the manuals if you end up fitting them.

I have many many years ago been known to make gaskets for primary casings on my old Triton's and Triumph Thunderbird which are large gaskets. It meant getting the bike back on the road quicker

Re: Gasket thickness.
If you use a new paper gasket genuine or cereal then don't forget to clean the old paper off the surface to get a flush seal. Try not to get bits dropping inside the engine/cct hole. If you use liquid gasket you can slap it straight on, a ring around the base of the tensioner is good enough, and you don't have to clean the remains of old paper gasket off. It saves time and saves risking getting bits of crap fall inside the engine.

Re: Gasket thickness.
While that is probably very true, I like to clean off the mating surfaces myself, but I'm probably old school, well old at leastcybercarl wrote:If you use a new paper gasket genuine or cereal then don't forget to clean the old paper off the surface to get a flush seal. A good point about making sure no bits of the old gasket fall inside the engine. I use an old rag to fill the opening when doing that.
