Not sure if this should be in here or somewhere else but I'm toying with spraying the standard exhaust hangers satin black for 2 reason. I'm not a fan of the custom ones that are on there, plus I'll having a pillion on board from time to time. And secondly...the spare standard ones that came with the bike are a bit tatty.
So my question is, would I need to go as far as getting the shot blasted, or would giving them a good rub down with some wet/dry paper then a primer before the black? I've never done any sort spraying so this is a step into the unknown for me!

I will tell you tomorrow as mine are ready to collect, another thing with the powder coating is will it make them slippery so I will check when I have them backlloydie wrote:Polish ,wrap or paint but non will last .

The wrap idea could be helpful to protect the rear linkage bottom bearinglloydie wrote:Polish ,wrap or paint but non will last .

Re: Painting
It's the hangers not the cans mate. Anyway I can't see heat being a problem as powdercoating copes with going in an oven and people also get things like engine cases powdercoated with no issues. As for powder coat how will that cope with the heat
Personally I would rub them down with wet n dry (wet) to get rid of any pitting or scratches in the ally, then use an Etch primer, then whichever paint you decide to use. Or you could go down the Hammerite path. There's quite a few threads on here regarding painting with links to various paints so do a search. You will also find details on how to go about getting a good finish. Lloyd's right about the durability though as this will vary with products and use. Anodising is a good option

Re: Painting
Had mine powder coated a good while ago and they were fine.. no probs what so ever.
You can't anodise cast aluminium very well (at least to make it look nice) or indeed some grade at all so forget that as an option.

Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?
