Hi all
Going to change the gearing on the bike . So my question to you is which would you change. 1 tooth off the front sprocket or 3 on to the rear. I can only change at the mo (Lack of funds ). There`s not a lot of difference in price between the 2 . If i up the rear will the chain still be long enough ?
Cheers
Thanks lloydie was hoping someone said that Im hoping that it`ll quicken the steering a bit as it tends to push wide especially at slow speed . Was thinking of dropping the forks through the yokes a couple of mill
You can only go +2 in the rear with a stock chain.
If you go +3 you will need to add a link.
Now for which way to go, it depends on what you want the bike to do.
Up in the rear will shorten the wheel base and take weight off of the front wheel
Down in the front will make the wheel base a touch longer which gives more weight on the front wheel.
I can get more detailed about what each change but for now that is the basic answer.
So it depends on how you ride and what you are looking for out of the bike on which option you choose,
Loud pipes don't save lives, knowing how to ride your bike will save your life.

Ahhh I see said the blind man . Am i right that 2 on the rear will take it up to 43 teeth then . Shorter wheel base is what im looking for . Quicker steering and a little bit frisky`er off the mark

Yes 2 teeth on the rear sprocket will bring it up to 43 teeth, as standard rear sprocket is 41 teeth. I would recommend the bigger rear sprocket for what you want. As 8541Hawk says, bigger rear will shorten the wheel base, giving quicker steering.
On another note, changing the gearing will put the speedo out. By raising the gearing (as you intend to do) will mean your speedo will be showing you are going faster than you actually are. A speedo healer or similar will correct this. Also you should really change sprockets and chain at the same time, obviously if your chain is getting near to the end of it's life, and you want to see what lowered gearing is like, then it won't really make a lot of difference.
Ive gone 43 teeth Rear and it was a great mod,UNTIL i got the flywheel lightened, and oh joy!!!. With that done and the 43 tooth sprocket the bike is a joy,Squirmy but fun.
Lloydie, iam having a blast on the bike. ( part from the "Wheelbarrow" comments) Black Cans on Probably lol
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
