Whats that ?
Hi , does anybody know what the tube is that goes into the front of the clutch side engine casing ? Is it supposed to have a hole in the L shape joiner that goes into the casing . Reason im asking is that last time i came back from a ride , i had a sort of reddy brown specks of something on my boot , and i think its coming from that tube . Thanks

Re: Whats that ?
It's the drain for the water pump when the seal fails

Re: Whats that ?
Ive just ran the bike up to fan cutting in temperature and no water leaking anywhere !!!! Which i find odd , the water pump should still pump when idle shouldnt it ?
Re: Whats that ?
1st off this should be in the workshop section not The Workshop Knowledgebase
The tube your referring to, do you mean the small metal right angled one at the front of the engine. If so it's not supposed to have anything attached to it as it's an overflow for when the water pump mechanical seal is defective. It's a bit of a job as the seal sits behind the bearing which will need replacing too.. Page 6.13 in the Honda workshop manual.

Oh.... I just responded to the duplicate post you made in the knowledgebase. I would clean the overflow pipe out first as it may be a build of road grime that has trapped a bit of water and gone rusty. Keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

without pictures i agree with lloydie, but don't rush to change it yet as its not a cheap seal, just keep an eye on it

Re: Whats that ?
Thanks for the replys , the water isnt coming from the water overflow tank or pipe , i cant actually see where its coming from when its ticking over , how much pressure should be in the water sytem when running ? Should the pipes be hard when running or squidgy

Re: Whats that ?
Now I'm starting to think your referring to something else
Rubber pipes should be squidgy not hard. Take a pic of which pipe your referring to.

Re: Whats that ?
I mean the water pipes the big black ones that carry the water around , should they be hard when running ? ie is the system pressurised ?
Re: Whats that ?
Well yeh the system is pressurised but you should be able to still squeeze the hoses. Their not under immense pressure so you cant squeeze them.

Re: Whats that ?
Eeek - if watery stuff is flowing from the front of the clutch casing (early model simply a hole / later a spigot) then something's not right as this is is indicative of a waterpump seal failure - it ensures coolant leaks out externally rather than enters the clutch casing contaminating oil. As mentioned above locate as priority exactly where its leaking - try some talcum powder around where you suspect the leak is occurring.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: Whats that ?
You may have to keep your eye out for new clutch cover, it would be easier to swap the clutch cover than replace the bearing and seal.

Or you could try some foot spray - thast works well for oil leaks.Wicky wrote:As mentioned above locate as priority exactly where its leaking - try some talcum powder around where you suspect the leak is occurring.
