Just had a test ride..

Hi all!

So I had a test ride on Saturday, larger tank variety with only 9k on the clock. Couldn't stop grinning when I got off!
But I have a suspicion the bike may have been sat for a few years, should I worry about that? Also is there any thing you think I should really look into on the bike to see what major work would need doing?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,
check out the info on here regarding CCT's, If they are standard Honda ones budget in that these need replacing NOW.
Usual things, tyres, chain, battery should all be looked at. If it's been sat I would also get it serviced, fresh old and fluids can never go a miss.

Apart from that just get it..

Had read about the CCTs on here, fluids will all get changed anyway.

Any way of telling if the tensioner has already been changed before I buy?

you need manuals, end of, fit manuals.

Thanks for confirming I need manuals, but is there any way of finding out if the job has already been done before I buy? Don't think the trader will let me open her up on the shop floor to have a look...

Just look to see if the rear cylinder has a manual CCT fitted - the front pot is harder as it's hidden under the airbox/behind frame rail.

Manual CCT will look like a bolt sticking out of the engine on the right hand side, just above the footrest pointing towards the swinging arm. Look at VTRPIG's post "New Hangers" on the picture of the right side of his bike to the right of the Abba jack handle is a red anodised part, thats it. If it looks like a grey cone in that position, then it needs changing.

heres my bike, zoom in and check out the blue item in the middle of the engine, thats what they look like, basically a large bolt coming out from a coloured housing.Image

From this image then I assume that's the 'cone,' and therefore will need changing, as I'll get it done properly how much am I looking at budgeting for manuals, rather than the 'fail safe' option.

Different shot, but am assuming the silver slightly pointy bit sticking out the back of the engine is the Auto CCT?

yes, that is a standard auto CCT..............so you know there has not been manual tensioners fitted, but you cant tell by looking if the stopper mod has been done

Welcome to the forum. It's irrelevant if they are new or not if the bike has been sitting around. There seems to more of a likelihood of the cct springs breaking that have been inactive for a while. As mentioned best to either stop mod the originals or change for manuals.
