Change of gearing question

Post by vtrjock »

Hi guys. A quick question on gearing change/ speedo error.
Has anyone taken actual real time speedo error readings after losing one tooth on the front? Thanks.

No but I did when I went +2 on the rear.

With that set up it was right at 10% on the speedo, So the +1 up front will be a little higher than that.

yes, this 5% is only my estimate through observation, not exact number. But 10% seems to be high in my case. I have 98 year.

it helps give me some safety margin against speeding tickets so I try and forget that it is 10% high, and if I recalibrated it would lead to trouble

That's the problem with no speedo heeler.

It may be obvious but something else to note is that the margin increases as speeds rise. So 10% at 30mph is going to be 33mph and at 50 it's going to be 55mph, 70 it's 77mph and so on.
