Penetrating oil recommendations

Post by budd »

I’m about to start the restoration of a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine sports car, so I think I’m likely to need some penetrating oil to loosen the inevitable seized nuts and bolts, but before I buy the default 5ltrs of WD40 I’m wondering if there’s anything else that’s better? WD40 has traditionally been the most popular pen oil but is there anything else I should consider? because I think I’ll need all the help I can get with a car that is the best part of 50yrs old .BTW I'm more interested in bulk products ie 5ltrs rather than aerosols
I've now gone all European and bought a KTM Superduke GT and Aprilia RSV1000R :D ,
Storm is now gone  .

A +1 on plus gas. Expensive, but it works!
No idea if it's available in the sort of quantities you're after though.

I use something called (Action can) AC-90 I was given a few cans and it seems much better than WD40. they do other penetrating oils too

Equal parts automatic transmission fluid, brake fluid and Marvel Mystery Oil. My neighbor has a thing for old tractors. They are rust buckets when he starts to tear them down. He hits them with this mix a few days before he starts work and never has a stuck bolt and that is pure amazing.

found this,
http://rivperformance.editboard.com/t71 ... rison-test

similar thing 50-50 ATF mixed with acetone, I think the acetone carrys the ATF into the threads so I suppose other solvents should be just as effective, diesel, etc

Plus Gas is amazing and lasts yonks as you don't use much for each application.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
