HELP GUYS!!!! CCT Timing

Post by BrianC »

I have now got all the bits off to allow me to replace the OEM cct s with the manual ones.

Following the instructions I turned the crank until both cams were pointing up and inwards and the R-T mark aligned and the chain wheels seem a way off the marks

Just to illustrate some pics below:

And this is what I am seeing on the inlet side

I have quadruple checked the RT mark and still the same. It looks like the Exhaust side is similarly out.
I know this did have new CCT fitted in the nearish past - maybe the muppet got it wrong - ie to those other marks?

The engine turns OK, with no bashing noises, it was running fine when I got it, and the fronts look in perfect alignment. I'm presuming from the quietness when running and the absence of clashing noises that I am not getting any metal to metal !!!!

Looks like I am stalled again!!!!

Remove the cct and cam caps to reset the cams .
It happens when some muppet pissed about without reading out guide on here .
Worthwhile checking the valve clearances while your there .
And yes very lucky if there ain't any damage .

Well as I said it was running ok when I got it with no undue noises etc so I'm relatively confident I'm ok -maybe if it had been other way we might have had a clash

Just for my piece of mind and I'll start with 2 apologies:

1. Excuse my noddy diagram but I'm up to my elbows in grease and its the best I could do !!!!! Spent a lot of this afternoon moving the cams round so the toming marks are now correct - heaven knows which numpty fitted the oem cam tensioners!!

2. I'm still a little bit unsure about this chain deflection - can someone look at the noddy diagram below and advise before I tighter everything up on the back one, before moving to the front.

Thanks guys

The 5-7mm is pushing down on the chain ,this is 0mm then lift it up to 5-7 mm that's how you set it .

Measured from the same run of the chain. I.e. top to top or bottom to bottom!

Just to clarify the tension on the chain. Take a point top middle or bottom of the chain then with a measured straight edge the total movement up and down should be between 5-7mm. Example: mine measured 4mm when pressed down and 3mm when pulled up.
