Hi,

Is anyone capable of replacing automatic cct's with the manual ones?
Preferably London North area (Enfield and surroundings), but can be anywhere else in let say 30 mile radius.
I have already bought them and I have got an fitting instruction, but I am a bit too scared to do this myself.

The CCT job should take about 2 hours with a couple of brews of tea / coffee on the go , few biccies maybe.. the ...key is .. ... turn of the timing mark.. 1 and 1/4 turns....on timing when you turn.. don't let any nuts// bolts/ washers mechanical items fall/slip downwards and become unrecoverable ....make sure large cloths are over... to cover spaces .. say carbs .. engine abyss.. open areas ...to catch what drops down ... if anything ..... use quality sealant on threads on manual ccts... follow Cybercarls very good instructions.. nay probs .. good luck

I looked at that ebay item CCT .. you got them at an excellent price... many VTR jockeys have paid double that... even more if the tax man has
his way and they were sent from the USA .. even Europe ( Dutch ) CCTs are expensive ..

I done mine myself and I have no mechanical knowledge.It took me nearly 6hrs but with the excellent step by step instructions from Carl and the instructions that came with the cct's I done it.The only thing that confused me was in the instructions from the manufacturer in USA.They said that there was no need to remove front rocker cover and I couldn't see how to do it properly without removing it.So I removed it anyway.I didn't find it a simple job but as said I have no mechanical knowledge at all.That said I wouldn't be prepared to attempt it on somebody else's bike.But if I can do it i'm sure you can.As long as you turn engine over NOT USING STARTER MOTOR on completion I don't think you can damage the engine at all.Some one will probably step up to the plate for you.Good luck with it anyway

Back in school I had an instructor, in my diesel tech class, who called us all together and said "boys, I am going to tell you the first and greatest rule of any type of mechanics. We waited with anticipation when he said "you don't build an engine with your head up your ass!" Truer words were never spoken. You can do this. Take your time, go slow, think before you act and do each step in order.

The worst part of the job is stripping all the stuff off like the fairing, tank and air box. Second, make sure you stuff a rag down the cam chain tunnel, especially on the back cylinder to keep anything from finding its way down there. I use plastic sandwich bags for screws and bolts to keep them in order according to the part i took off.

Cybercarl has an excellent step by step thread on this. Do it his way and you can't do wrong.

I am not saying it wouldn't be worthwhile to have an experienced mate handy but it's not really necessary.

Mark Krieger's instructions are from this very forum a few years back (2011) - written before Carl's version.

This is what I am arfaid, to be honest
Sometimes I finish fixing sth with some parts missing/left
I can't make mistakes while replacing cct's
