It's a good guide . I got a little hot tearing at mallory last week due to running the rear a little low (31psi) think I'll go with 35psi cold next time .

Too hard me thinks.
I run 27 front 29 rear and that's after 30 mins on warmers.

I ran 31 cold last time and I got hot tearing !
Think ill try 1psi jump at a time with these tyres and see how they react .

My raised edges seem to switch from leading to trailing as you go round the profile. I'm guessing due to rolling the power on as the bike is more upright?
The rear was at 30 on a cold day and I think they were getting a bit too hot. Would take a couple of laps for them to hold a solid line, then things would get squirmy toward the end of the session, not sure if it's shock related or tyres though.

Re: Track day tyre wear
Lloydie, that looks about right to me, that's not deep enough to be hot or cold tear. Looks like they need to go down a few psi to get them looking rippled right to the edge.
If you're going out at 35 cold, that'll be hitting more than 40 hot. Mine are about 21 or 22 cold then get to 27 or 28 after 30 mins on warmers.
I probably did 10 track days last year and on every one I went out at no more than 31 rear. At 31 I was getting some slipping toward end of session as outer layer was getting too hot.
Dropped to 27 by end of last year's days and found it much better for grip throughout the whole session.
I'll send a pic of mine when I get back but they look just like that.

Re: Track day tyre wear
Thanks for that [THUMBS UP SIGN] I'm new to all this sticky tyre stuff .
These tyres never felt like they were slipping tho and I'm sure I could push much harder with them now that I'm used to them .
Still shocked how good they're considering how much they cost new !

Re: Track day tyre wear
last time at the track i went for 26/28 cold and all seemed grand, the back of the bike ended up in nice little spots of rubber
the older i get,the faster i was

35psi too high for track, 30 ish better, the tyre wear looks like a lack of compression, if it's stock shock change it. also looks like your getting the bike almost upright before hitting the power hard, feed it in whilst leant over more, soft power on the storm means you can open the throttle earlier than you think and keep it on it's side, weight that outside peg so your ready for any slides
Also could be that the tyre isn't as good as you think and is having a hard time of it, have you tried Trumpet tyres for 2nd hand track tyres.

Re: Track day tyre wear
I've had used tyres from them before and found it a bit of a lotto with what you get that's why I opted for new rubber ,
Next tyre change I'll buy a new set from them as they're a good price .
Yes I'm still on a standard rear shock till funds recover then I'll bag a better one .
I know I was leavening "late" to get the power down as I was getting used to the bike and tyres having not ridden a Vtr for a year or so and never used them tyres before I didn't want to bin it first time out .
Next time I'll be faster [THUMBS UP SIGN]
Thanks for the incite Bob

Interesting! Whats your view on road pressures Poppers? Do you recommend the std 36 front 42 rear or would you rather run a little lesspopkat wrote:35psi too high for track, 30 ish better, the tyre wear looks like a lack of compression, if it's stock shock change it.

I tend to run 35 front 38 rear on most bikes that are quoted 36/42, most roads round here are a bit bendy the lower pressures seem to work better, if I was doing a long motorway run I'd go back up to 36/42.
Give a try Pete, nothing wrong with experimenting a little.
