I was a bit disappointed and thought it was going to be something special this year. They could have at least sent a squadron of Chinooks over blasting out some tunes like in Apocalypse now or maybe one of the Osprey's that flew past last week.

I get Chinooks and Apaches's fly past my house on a daily basis now but the sound from the Osprey is unique.

Osperys are Yankee on secondment with SAS to ferry em in quick to London from Hereford in case of things kicking off on a repeat of a VTR Monopoly Run - probably dedicated to antiterrorism/noisy pipes not airborne parading . Though spotted them last summer along with Apaches up-to-no-good near Frinton-on-Sea that renowned hotbed of radicalism.

Chinooks and Apaches regulary thump around Colchester keeping potential car thieves on their toes...

There was a pair of Ospreys passing through over two days last week I thought we where going to purchase some for our special forces and that was our test flights. Louder than Chinooks they are. Bloody helicopters are starting to drive me nuts between the Westland heliport over the river and the military flying across on a daily basis. Then there is Plod circling around quite regularly. 3am plod where right over my house the other day.

I don't know about terrorists but the Russians have become quite active recently. There has been a fair few QRA's launched this year. Then there was this the other day. No doubt because of our actions in eastern Europe along with the yanks. It's getting like the cold war days again.

Well after Putin using suplementary Russian military forces in Ukraine to seize the Crimea (and vital port) supposedly to protect the passport holding Russians ensconced there (conveniently dumped in there decades ago after WW2 by Stalin after ethincally cleansing out the native Tatars) - the show of power with nuclear capable bombers and naval forces on UK borders could be a show to say not to mess with the Russian-born population in London estimated at over 150,000 in 2014 and/or beat them at football  or else Russian amphibious assault up the Thames to liberate the vacationing Russian enclave...

Not our actions of the cuff but NATO talking back in kind in reaction to Putin playing up for domestic consumption (amidst their economic collapse due to drop in energy prices and sanctions resulting from his Ukraine gambit) and his aggression in Ukraine, Baltics, Middle East and just about everywhere.

I watched a very interesting documentary on MH17 where they showed witness pictures, spoke to locals etc. They even managed to show the route of the Russian missile being transported with shots from roadside cameras. They play dirty the Russians and can't be trusted. I'd rather have them on side than be an enemy though. And then you have stupidly with Americans showing nuclear force in the Baltic breaking the agreement made back in Gorby's days. It's no wonder they are getting nervous.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 50565.html

Could be some scary times ahead. The worlds powers are all gathering tactical positions, including the new superstate of the EU, even if that means starting smaller wars like in Afgan so the west can set up airbases. It reminds me of the game of Risk.

Nice pics Aaron shame it was so cloudy. You got a nice close up of the Typhoon there and you got to see the helicopters. I never saw any of them.

NATO has set up a tripwire of nominal forces into Baltics in case case Putin pulls a similar stunt to Ukraine. As there are also in places in the Blatics like Estonia a Russian minority which he placed under Russian 'protection' i.e wants them them back under Russian hegemony. Problem is they are independant sovereign nations that overall look more to the West than to past USSR glories.

Russian has always stated that'll they'll nuke anything and anyone that infringes on its territory since the ColdWar and Putin has reaffirmed that so no one esp NATO has attacking Russia in mind, his theats are more to target nukes onto former terroritories as an escalation and maintain to his domestic audience that the West is being the 'agressor' as Rusky state media isn't exactly broadcasting the fact Russian T-90A tanks and artillery were doing a great deal of harm in Ukraine, and Russian soldiers were getting killed in the process , and in fact denying it despite evidence to the contary all over the internet.

"stupidly with Americans showing nuclear force" ??

What you wrote and the link you provided seem contradictory? US isn't showing nuclear force just showing support for Baltics and letting Putin know that he can't just grab them back under any false pretext.
