Not really.... Yes they tend to label a lot of things these days that could be put down to other areas like social environment, too much technology, bad diet etc being an influence and cause, but true mental illness is a defect in the way the Brain works. Just look at how someone with Altimeters or Parkinsons suffers. They have no choice or control over that. Even Bipolar or Schizophrenia there is no no way to control extreme conditions without some brain altering drug.

The problem here is that because it's mostly something that is not physically seen like a broken leg for example, peoples attitudes are different which is the whole point of days like this. To bring peoples awareness to it and change peoples attitudes in the same way that homosexuality or woman's rights is now accepted.

Many years ago I would have been burnt at the stake

They will be alright as long as their not scared of heights...

Go & fight ISIS, if they catch you they will still burn you at the stake if you dont convert to their way of thinking...which is still middle ages based apparently...

Having once been a resident of Stannage Ward for a period of time I am entitled to describe people with mh problems as winder lickers.
Drugs please and plenty of them.

I would like to add that at the time I was a gibbering wreck, and they got me up and running again albeit with a bad stutter and shakes which could propel me out the room without wanting to go.
It took years to hit relatively human again and I would like to thank all our mh doctors, nurses and carers from the bottom of my heart.
Still need drugs tho

And most of us don't require a ward because we self medicate in one form or another. Me..I'm trying to get on a ward but they won't let me in. I'm sick of having to pay for medication.

Matron!!!!!
