Runny nose.

You read it right.

After a while of being outside I get a bit of a runny nose, which is fine when walking as yano, you can just use a tissue and blow it. Problem solved without much hassle.

Now. Add a motorbike to the mix and we have a bit of an awkward situation where I will spend the entire trip sniffing.

Now. Add cold weather to the mix and the fact that the sniffly nose is forcing me to breath through my mouth, thus fogging up my visor.

As a consequence I usually ride with the visor up, or at least I leave an airgap. This however makes me feel cold. I don't like to feel cold.

Does anyone have a solution to this pathetic problem?

P.S. It also means I must ride with eye contacts as otherwise my glasses fog up way too quickly the moment I stop at a junction as there is no air flow.

Firstly try sticking some foam ear plugs up ya nostrils to stop the drips...

Secondly try one of these...http://respro.com/store/product/foggy-mask keeps your breath down so wont steam up the goggs...

Grow a moustache to absorb the mucus during your journey then wring it out in front of whoever awaits at journeys end, for endless admiration and street cred!
Or get a helmet with pinlock and use a respro/foggy mask

The last thing you need is a sneeze in a crash helmet. Try Beconase available over the counter from any chemist. I use it for hay fever.

I don't actually sneeze much.. ever.. Perhaps I do have hay fever, but in winter time? In London?

If you ride a motorcycle through the winter months then your just have to accept the fact you gonna get cold and get a runny nose etc. Otherwise don't ride a bike...better still get out of the country and move somewhere with a better climate. If you can afford it then you can go and buy layers of clothing including heated Gortex etc and make yourself look like Michelin man but then you will be complaining that you have a lack of movement. Best advice I can give is to man up and put up with it otherwise get inside a cage with central heating. Your on a motorcycle which is open to the enviroment and when you take the wind chill factor into consideration at speed your in Arctic conditions so what else do you expect. You may be surprised how the body adapts to the conditions we are are in.

I hear ya. I wear glasses (I can't wear contacts) and riding a bike can be a real bitch at this time of year.

I have been seen crawling down the road on the VTR at 40 mph (sometimes less!), as I can't see where the hell I'm going.

Car drivers are wondering what the hell I'm playing at, drifitng all over the road....but the reality is, the visor has misted up....or there is that much salt spray or condensation on the INSIDE of the visor, that wiping it with yer glove just smears it and then yer effectively riding blind.

Add glasses to the mix, and if you raise the visor in fog or with road salt on the roads, then the glasses ALSO get clarted, and it's a no-win situation.

Car drivers forget they have window washers and wipers. We have a glove...and then that's caked, there's no hope.

Does anyone remember the Wee Willy Wiper? A small rubber blade that slipped over yer gloved index finger.

Anyhoo - I've tried these anti-fog visors...none of them could cope with minus temperatures and hot breath in a helmet.

I can recommend Bob Heaths Anti Fog spray (a wee can, you can keep in yer pocket - it's that small).

Link: Bob Heath Anti Fog Spray on Amazon - £4.49 for 50ml

To apply it, spray a wee bit on the INSIDE of yer visor, and then polish it off. It does appear streaky at night when headlights are coming at you, but the visor remains about 80% mist free. Do NOT apply it to contact lenses. But, you can apply a tiny bit to your glasses (both sides of the lens)

As for a runny nose....you are LUCKY. If you are clean shaven....it just runs down yer chin.

Try having a beard, riding a bike in sub zero temperatures and having a runny nose at the same time!

A days riding on my bike and I wonder why people run away from me when I remove my helmet in the supermarket car park.

The reason they run away??

That's NOT me by the way. But the look is very similar to what can happen....

You slow down 8O I just go with it and hope for the best. It's like closing ones eyes and stepping out to cross the road. Yes I've done that too. Let the force be with you. Add rain to mix and I may as well be blindfolded.
