Ti Calliper mounting bolts

Post by AMCQ46 »

a question for the Ti collectors....

has anybody found a source for a Ti version of the Hex head bolts that mount the brake callipers to the fork legs?

they are M8 x 20mm, but they have a nonstandard head with a 16mm diameter and an 8mm hex key socket rather than the std 12mm with 6mm socket.

so is there a replica out there or did you use a flanged bolt?

Would these be any use: ?

Pro-Bolt M8 x 20mm Titanium: Pro-Bolt Titanium M8 x 20 Tapered Socket Cap

The only thing is with these, is they are a 6mm Allen Key head. (which I know you wanted 8mm)

Or, ''Normal looking'' flange head bolts (Titanium): TITANIUM FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNT BOLTS

Or, have a look here, and scroll to see what else is available on the Titanium Front: Ebay - Titanium stuff for the VTR 1000 Firestorm

:?: :?:

Or flanged alternative you mentioned

I remember I saw some fb pages with ti bolts on order, but cannot find it ...

Thanks GBM, I have the flanged bolts as a back up option, just need to check if the outer diameter of the socket will fit in the recess in the fork leg (but the ones listed there for vtr don't say if they are 10mm or 12mm socket).

Stephan, those torx news are pretty good option, shame they are in USA

Price is still ok if you consider these bolts are forged and not cnc machined (not sure how uk options are done), but it would be better in the old days with better forex, thats for sure :)

I think about some ti bits too for this season ...

i recently bought these from raceti, not hex, but they do the job, and have a 10mm head
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-20mm-Titan ... 2229454403
or even tastier
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-Titanium-B ... 2277497251
these do fit in the recess Al, i did buy another set from someone else, and i didn't realise that they took a 13mm socket, they barely fitted, so i looked around and went with the rac ti ones, they deffo fit mate....

good to have confirmation on Titan classics, i have bought the rest of the bolts from them, and decided to use their flanged bolts for the callipers as the 12mm socket will fit in the fork recess no problem

all bits are ordered from Titan classics now so will report on the quality of parts when they arrive.

I bought:
- Caliper joining hex screws that hold the 2 halfs together ... one side of mine were rusty and it was annoying me.
- Front spindle clamp hex screws, std plating just about to give up due to stone chipping
- Caliper to fork leg mounting bolt. used the flanged bolts as there was no equivalent hex screw... again the plating is about to give up.

so if I am honent its just for aesthetics, I could save more weight it I had a piss before I set off

REMEMBER please, to show me a pic of what they look like (the caliper to fork leg mounting bolts) as I have stainless caliper bolts, but still using the OEM (scabby and rusty) fork to caliper bolts. I went to a fasteners to buy some stainless ones, and the heads were too small - so will be interested to see what your flange bolts look like recessed into the bottom hole. Will I have to buy a really thin socket to fit inside etc?

Oh, and you've saved a LOT of weight......from inside yer wallet. You've bought Titty stuff fer gewds sake! Now yer wallet will be able to close properly and there's less drag in yer back pocket.
