I think if you ask around you may get a decent set of second hand better ones for maybe 200

Are they cheap because they are unbranded? Most of the higher priced items is down to the name. Alot of these aftermarket items are made in the same factory by the same people using the same quality materials and the only thing different is the name.

Dan Motos...cheap copy of the Gilles rearsets...
I have a set on a bike I bought last year...The action is very sloppy, cheap rose joint bearings, you could repalce them but by the time, & the cost, you have done that you could have bought a decent set...
I have a set of Gilles on another bike...they look the same but thats about it...
You pays your money...at the end of the day it's your bike & your cash... They are copys made in China & not in the same factory as Gilles ones...

I've had a couple of sets now. They're okay for the price. Is a bit of flex in them. Just don't expect amazing quality. There like £15 cheaper if you get them off the danmoto website directly. Gilles ones are stupid money.
You'll probably want to change the pin on the brake pedal and the rose joints on the gear change rod. Just a few quid so not worth worrying about.
I did review my first set on here somewhere. They come shipped with the spacers to make them fit properly now I believe.

It is a true case of "you get what you pay for".....
The only comparison between the Dan Moto rearsets and the Gilles is that they kind of look alike, that's it.
Sure, if bought new, the Gilles rearsets have a steep price but they are not all that hard to find used and all the bits are readily available if you find a damaged set.
Now IMHO the rearset is one of your main control points of the bike. The Gilles units on my bike bolted straight on, no fiddling or modifying. Just straight bolt on with buttery smooth action.
Every set of Dan Motos I have installed for other folks have been fiddly and have needed some sort of modification and even then never have felt really "solid"
Personally, my answer when asked which set to get is, if you just want the look the Dan Motos will do the job.
If you actually want a performance improvement, don't waste your time and just look for a used Gilles or Harris set as either of those 2 really work

I stumbled across this and having had a set of Dans on my bike for about 3 years I can honestly say that if you are prepared to replace the cheap chintzy fasteners with quality ones, modify how the brake master mounts and fit longer foot peg bolts they are good value for the money.
Probably a bit late but mine have been good so far. I sometimes stand on the pegs during a long ride and after replacing the peg bolts I don't feel any flex, the rose joints are original at this time and I don't experience any slop.
Buggered if I am going to pay $500'plus for a named brand that do the same thing.
Cheers
