replacing rear brake lever

Can anyone help? My mate's off to France for his job and has given me his VTR. It was in a very low speed spill last year and the back lever is bust and needs replacing.
The first inspection looked like you might have to remove the whole rear swing arm to get at the brake lever attachment - which I can't believe is necessary.
Alternatively, does simply undoing the allen nuts from the frame release the whole rear brake mechanism (which would then allow a replacement lever to be fitted).
Any suggestions most gratefully received!

Having spent most of last week twatting about with this I can confirm you CAN replace it without removing the swing arm
Undo the swingarm nut and push the bolt through about an inch
Undo the rear brake master cylinder
Remove the allen headed locating bolt below the swingarm bolt
At this point you can pull the footrest assemply out a bit and get to the circlip that holds the brake lever onto the hanger
And the split pin that holds it to the master cylinder
And the 2 springs (return spring and brake light spring)
Refitting is the opposite of removal

Its the back brake isn't it!!
Don't bother!!! Just change down a gear and use the clutch lever as a rear brake
Thats what I do!!!

Ummm, I hear that twins have vicious engine braking to the extent that many a bod coming across from a jap 4 locks the rear on a not infrequent basis....(at least at the beginning). Never had a twin before so I look forward to getting to know it!
If I get it wrong, expect a few more posts begging for technical advice...
