Chain and Sproket

Post by masked gerbal »

Question

How long should a chain and sproket last on the Firestorm. Got the bike in June 2002 with 5,500 mls on the clock now got 14,500 mls. Chain got a nice tight spot !(ooh err misses)and well back on adjusters. Is 14,500 mls for a chain ok or shite ? Is a new chain easy to fit and whats a good one to get ?

Cheers

Depends how you ride and take care of it I guess. I've got 19k miles on my OE chain and sprockets and all are in good nick. Adjusters about half way down the scale.

BTW My bike is 8 months old!

OK Thanks

Got a Scot Oiler and had it fitted when I got the bike.

70% of my milage is commuting 30% out for a blast, whats worse for the chain ?

Have u done 19,000 mls in 8 months ! F&*^ me !

Sprockets both in very good nick, it just the chain which concerns me !

Any thoughts

Change it ASAP! Your life is worth a hell of a lot more than the price of a chain!

My chain snapped on me last year and it was not nice. Lucky it happened at low speed so no real damage done but it could have been much worse.

Mine started to stretch.

Bung the bike on a paddock stand and find out where your chain is the tightest. Make a mark on the centre link at the bottom. Rotate the wheel till the mark is in the middle above the swing arm then check the tension again. If there is a big difference then change it.
