How easy is to remove paint of chrome and would paint stripper damage the chrome?

I was watching a clip on youtube about a guy removing paint from old cast iron lathe pieces.

He was using a huge pot, 3/4 full of water & had it boiling away on the stove. He then slowly poured a whole 3" high 2" dia tub of baking soda into the water.

He then slowly lowered the parts into the pot. 10 minutes or so later he pulled them out & wire brushed them.

If there was some stubborn paint just soak them again. Looked good.

I have never done it, but have a look & judge for yourself

What is the chrome part...Not much chrome on a Storm, fank fek, so that only leaves the forks ...?

I've seen peeps recommending oven cleaner, that makes sense to me as some ovens have chromed racks in them.

Whatever you use though will be about not leaving on longer than needed. So once the paint softens up remove it,

If it's got paint on the oil lines I doubt there's much chrome left underneath. Silver hammerite rulz (for a little while).

Caustic soda or you can get 1L Clostermann HD paint stripper for about a tenner (and wrap it with cling film for a while) - but as mentioned if it's for the oil lines the paint could be the only thing holding em together.

And if you go the oven cleaner route DONT get it on any aluminium.
It will eat into it and ruin the surface

I remember doing a search for the bestest & baddest most powerful oven cleaner years ago. Wilko's own brand won, cheap too.

Feckin dodgy stuff though, method was oven racks in a supplied bag & pour in the gear. No non ferrous metal or plastic iirc.

One bag did pierce & leaked, nasty powerful stuff. Must be similar to the stuff peeps throw onto other peeps faces when they lose in life.

Beware

It is the oil lines that have been sprayed but they look good with no corrosion underneath the paint. Going to try it with paint stripper
