Well took a little longer than planned but the project is properly started now.
I'll have the rest torn down today and have the engine opened up tomorrow so I can order the bearing on Mon.

So should have a busy few weeks coming up

Yes having a lift make all the difference
So the good news is the engine is out and I will tear it down tomorrow to get the bearing sizes. The bad news is I was told up until today that the upcoming move was 6 months out or so.....well today that turned into 6 weeks 8O

Plan on having the engine back together and the frame checked ( think I tweaked it slightly the last time I threw her in the ditch  ) and then powder coated. Then move all the bits and finish the build once there. Though it will be nice to be back at 1200' instead of the 5000' where I am living now........

Hey Hawk, just seen your overhaul (2019) for the first time. Looks superb! I bet you can't wait to fire that motor up with a potential 120bhp+

R.E Hugger, yours looks great esp with the Benny sticker, but as you mentioned the lack of options, I thought I'd mention, I believe an R1 hugger would fit, they are a bit smaller and available in carbon... Image

6mths down to 6 weeks, no pressure then :)

A bit nearer sea level should suit you better I imagine,

Chris.

Yeah the time frame change did not make me happy but at least I'll have time to get the engine assembled. The rest will probable move in bits and finish up once we get settled in.

Anyways got her all torn down and the bearings ordered. Everything looks nice and clean except for the bearing which had some minor scuffing. I would bet from sitting before I got it and even though I had oil pressure before I fired it.

Just a touch of carbon on the piston crown but looks like it was running well

Back from the frame shop. Everything nice and true now. Next is take all of it apart again and off to get powder coated.
Though now also waiting for the rear rod bearing to come off back order......

Progress has been a bit slow this week.... This is where I got to last Fri :

It was a nice day around 60f (15c) then Sat came around and it was a balmy 14f (-10c) with around 4" of snow...... :Ball Kick:

Finally warmed up a little bit today with a high if 41f (5c) so managed to pull the pistons to check the bores and oiled up my cylinder hone and called it a day. It is supposed to start warming up again on Sat and my bearings should be here tomorrow so just a week set back but things should pick up soon.

What piston-to-bore clearance did you get?
Any ovality?

Somewhere between .0015" & .002". Closer to .002" but not quite there
and yes everything is nice and round, which I expected as this engine had less than 15K miles on it
