Hi everyone. Ive been lookinf at getting a vtr but i am slightly confused about the cam chain issue. Is it netter to change to a manual tenaioner and if ao what do you guys recommend as there is loads out there, or is it better to stcik with thw genuine parts. Also if i can find a later tank does it fit the earlier models. Also top yoke conversions anybody got information on this. No dought you have heard all this before bur its new to me. Any help or information will be very helpfull

Thanks Derek

Welcome to the Forum Derek, hope you find a good VTR.

regarding your questions:

1) Cam Chain Tensioners.
there are many opinions here, including those who say you dont need to change at all, as their bike has been fine for 50+K miles.
so you have 3 options.
a) leave them as standard OEM parts, but there are reports to say that some replacement parts can fail early, so you are not fully eliminating the risk.
b) fitting Manual CCTs, this is very popular, just make sure you use a low strength loctite to make sure they dont unscrew them selves in use.
c) fit a stopper inside the existing standard CCT (look in workshop knowledge base for instructions).
I use the latter option as you get teh best of both world, and it is free!

2) later tank will fit but you need a the newer petrol tap as well........ newer tanks are getting expensive now and I dont often think I wish i had another 3 L

3) Many of us old gits have gone down the route of top yoke conversions and there are a few good options available. I made my own so will leave others to comment on the purchased solutions they have used.
but it is a great mod to the bike and makes it more usable.

it will be worth putting your location in your profile, then you could get some forum members who might be happy for you to try their bike

welcome along sir.. Al has kinda answered all the questions

3k these days for any VTR is to say the least more than top money, yes its worth it for a 1000cc bike but they just dont get that sorta money even proper spanky clean ones 8O
