Hello there fellow stormers,

I am the proud owner of an orange vtr firestorm, had it for approx 25 years,

I didn't know this place existed until I did a search for oil cooler pipes  I never thought to look for a specific bb for the firestorm, so I had probably glossed over any search engine results while searching for bits etc.

I bought the bike with 3600 miles on and currently clocking 25k. The bike came with after market Leo Vinci exhaust and k&n filter. And an orange pyramid hugger.

It now has MCCT and I have recently serviced the fork and uprated the internals following a guide that is very similar if not the same as one that has been posted on here. Also added a 6mm spacer above rear shock ( why I waited so long to get round to that is anybody's guess) vast improvement over potholes and turning is a lot nimbler. I also had the fork lowers powder coated.

Also added an led H4 and 2 led position lights mounted on brackets on the top caliper bolt, also 2 bobbins on swingarm for paddock stand

I have already changed the recifier to one that a local bike shop recommended for me as the original went west and boiled the battery.
I replaced the battery with an AGM which was pricey and didn't last for more than 2 years (pos) so it's on its 3rd battery which I shoehorned in the taller varadero battery (extra amps and easier to get at posts)

Jobs that need doing are-:
1. sort out the front exhaust studs and replace flange with a 2 piece stainless one
2 sort out starter motor housing and refurb the starter motor itself
3. Subframe needs stripping back and coating as rust is starting to show on welds etc
4. clutch slave seals

I've had one collision with a pheasant at 70mph and that took out the headlight and central section of fairing.

I do all the maintenance myself with the exception of tyre replacements. As it's fairly easy to work on compared to others.

Look forward to chatting to you all.

Regards
Potcee

Hi & welcome.

I wouldn't bother with refurbing the starter motor just get on eBay & look for one off a Blade or Blackbird.

It's the same unit just mounted on the back of the motor so less prone to the ravishing the storm one gets.

I recently picked one up for £20 so probably cheaper than buying the bits to refurb it...

Welcome along, Mac was selling stainless steel split flanges and they are a great upgrade when you replace the rusty studs especially on the front cylinder
