Hi,

I have just joined.
I had a Firestorm in the late 90s and loved riding it, but moving abroad for a few years meant I had to sell it. I have just got another one as a bit of a project. It needs some engine work, tidying up and tlc. I am looking forward to being able to ride it soon.

I know, my plans keep expanding.
I am now the proud owner of 3 scrap vtr engines, a running engine, a spare tank and fairings, and a full running bike.

Thanks all for the warm welcome.

Well, I found the engine problem. Front cam chain tensioner failed. So far I have installed a manual tensioner one the chance everything else survived but, alas, have to take the head off to replace both exhaust valves (and anything else I find on route like sheared exhaust bolts and hopefully not the piston). It will keep me busy tomorrow
I will replace the rear tensioner too before I put the rest of the bike back together. The Manual cam tensioner article in Workshop was excellent to follow and definitely made the job easier.

it would probably work out as cheap to buy a complete rear head, the rears are cheap as chips and fit that instead.block the old cct hole, open the other blank one and job done, they are the same casting front and rear but front heads normally get the damage.
