Buyin' my first Firestorm!

Just stumbled across the forum abd registered. I've just recently sold my sv650 and looking to move up the ladder to buy a Firestorm. In all honesty, I wanted a Storm prior to the sv but insurance was a bit of an issue with only being 24yrs of age! Have been offered a 1998 silver storm with 25000km, high level carbon cans and full service history for £2700. Previous owner's had bike for last 4 and a half years and bike seems mint. Any advice, or points I should be aware of, or specifically looking for when buying a used Storm would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave.

most important thing of all is cam chain tensioners, if these go on the move it is likely to stuff the engine, or at least cause big bill, valves etc.
So find out if cct have been changed, most have been done at 17,000 miles and don't cost much.
listen for ticking noise at front and rear of engine, you will know it when you hear it.
If you hear it get cct changed befor buying and change at every 15,000 miles.
all other things are minor and can be changed to your likeing etc.

Just one thing - you quote the mileage in km rather than miles. If so this may mean that the bike is an import and there may be some differences. In particular, some overseas bikes are restricted, to keep the max power below 100 bhp.

Thanks again for all your advice and info. I'll be logging in regularly for now on and hopefully i'll be able to offer someone some help or advice at some time or other to return the favour.

Hi there,
Are you still looking for a storm, as mine is/will be available very soon.
I't a 2000 in black full sevice history, had its 32k service done 2k miles ago, it has a few trick bits thrown at it, belly pan, braided hoses, aftermarke airfilter, hugger double bouble, PIAA headlight etc.
PM me if you'd like to see it or a picture.
Cheers
Tino
