BMW R1100S?

Post by Bink »

Hé people,
Anyone here ever riden a BMW R1100S?
There is one for sale in my area which comes fully loaded... Ohlin’s suspension front and rear, carbon fiber headlamp surround, carbon fiber front mudguard, carbon fiber rear hugger, full race exhaust system with Y-piece and upgraded EPROM chip, ABS Brakes, Tank bag, Heated grips... After 3 years on the Firestorm I'm tempted to look for another twin ...

Anybody know of any websites which compares the VTR with the BM?
Thanks!

Nah Pete

Paul had the RT which is the "ice cream van on two wheels" :D Soory Paul  The "S" is the boxer cup version

Bink

Have to say that they are a sound piece of kit (yes I know it's a BMW but...) there quicker than you might think, handle well and, for a BM look good too. Had a go on one about a year ago and was very tempted.

hello,

Motorcyclist magazine (US) did a comparo of various semi-faired bikes in the June 2000 issue. Some of the bikes tested included the VTR, R1100S, TL1000S, Sprint RS, Ducati 900SS. In their comparo (which I have at home) the VTR finished first, with the TL second. They noted that the VTR was the best all-rounder although the TL ws a bit sportier. AS for the R1100S, they noted that the engine was buzzy at highway speeds (attributed to a slightly state of tune used in the S, as it was the original 1085cc version instead of teh later iteration). If my memeory serves me corectly it finished fourth behind the VTR, TL, and Sprint.

Take it for what it's worth.

cheers

Hi Bink,
My brother has got one, I quite like it.
I've rode it a couple of times, it's a lot bigger than the storm. I didn't really have chance to get used to it but my Brother loves it.
Shaft drive as well, no messing with chains anymore!
And he's got Lasers on it too, sound awesome!!
It's alright but I'm too young to ride a BMW!!!

Sorry. I must have stumbled upon the Old Man Thread by mistake. I'll leave now   .
If you ate yourself would you become twice as big or simply disappear?

That sounds a bit better. Over here, we use the term RS, meaning something is rat sh*t. Not sure if you have the same saying... Either way, the way I see it, an R1100S is just a big engine right in the middle...

(Not that I've ridden one, of course... I'm far too young  :P  .)

Or maybe it's not that big... Maybe it's just all torque...

(Gees, wish I'd thought of that for my last post  !)

Good one, daughter of Kaz!

You've gotta wonder what she comes out with when her Mum's not around 8O !

You're right though, especially with the young laddies on the smaller bikes. Just adore it when you come across another helmet toter in a shopping centre or something & you get the ol' "so, what d'ya ride?". Rarely are they on something bigger. You either get instant defensiveness or complete awe. Priceless!
