Hey all!
Im a newbie to this forum and a newbie to the VTR firestorm.
I picked it up yesterday and had a tough time getting off it.
But hey, we all get that feeling dont we..?!?
Im just wondering what petrol is best to use for these bikes.
Regular unleded ?
95% Octane (unleaded) ?
98% Octane (unleaded) ?
Thanks!

Welcome on board Dje, I personally use the 95 Octane (unleaded) and can't really see much if any difference in using the 98 Octane (unleaded), some will no doubt disagree

I'm in Oz, so I don't know if fuel is the same, but I 've put all different types, brands etc. and not noticed any difference. Some here won't use Shell, others only premium unleaded.

Thinking about an higher Octane fuel, I would say if you had a non standard engine, with high lift camshafts, reworked cylinder-heads and a higher ratio compression then thats when the higher Octane fuel would be more of an advantage IMO,

I use 95 or 98% with an extra fuel additive. Gets me 17km per litre on average. Tested that over a recent 5,000km trip, about 1/3 highway riding & the rest twisties

I Aways found mine ran better on 98
but because I kept enjoying the extra push I ranted it everywhere and used more juice.

Hold on, thats about 48 mpg by my reckoning! You sure you've got a VTR, girl?

That there's no typo, Simon. For a VTR, I get excellent fuel consumption for some reason. The additive is a specialist racing thing, as is the oil I use.
And just for the record, I'm not a granny-type rider

. Larry can back me up on that one. I've got the 16L tank & the light usually comes on around 210. When I joined up with the OzFireStorm mob in Sydney, I found I was actually getting further than those with the 19L tank

.
If anyone's interested in the oil or fuel additive, here's their site:

It's a Brisbane-based company. Not sure if they're available o'seas. And no, I'm not on commission
