Why is servicing made so difficult?

Further to my comment about design flaws getting released onto the market (see Haunted Storm) how many here think that basic servicing is made bl**dy difficult on bikes?

I started thinking about this when I wanted to top up the water reservoir on the SV. Release the toolkit. Undo allen bolts to remove side panels. Undo allen bolts to remove seat. Undo allen bolts to loosen tank. Raise and prop tank. Access reservoir. Reverse the procedure.

My alternative would be a quick release seat, with the reservoir neck underneath.

Yes I know bikes have to be tightly packaged, but would it be rocket science to make basic maintenance - plugs, electrics, water, brakes - a lot easier. :?

What do you lot reckon :?:

has anyone ever seen how certain jungle tribes catch monkeys ?
they drill a hole in an anthill , and put a bean in it. monkey comes along, grabs bean , and due to clenched fish , cant get hand out until hunter comes along and drags unfortunate monkey away .
How did the fish get in the anthill then?

Time to revive the old 'fish, chimps and mushy bees' joke?

Just reminded me what a local bloke (who owns a bike shop) told me.

Dunno if true or not, but to change the spark plugs on a Kawasaki ZX12R you have to drop the engine!

On my TDM the battery is under the fuel tank.

I think that Honda must have employed a gynaecologist to design their bikes......
even with long fingers I have trouble reaching certain bits!!!!!!! 8O

Actually, it's not just bikes.

My Car is a 2.5L V6 Mondeo.

And on this model, to replace the clutch, you have to drop the entire engine/front end out from the body. change the clutch then lower the body back down onto the engine and use a special Ford jig to line everything back up again.

Brilliant eh?
