Did any of you guys vote in the ride magazine Rider Power 2006 survey?
The storm came in at 138th out of the top 150 bikes which dont sound to good but there were a lot of bikes that didnt make it in to the top 150.
and we still placed ahead of such bikes as the cbr600 tdm850 z750 and the ducati 748/916/998 family.
If you aint seen it the scores were
OUT OF 5
build quality 4
engine performance 4
handling/suspension 3
rider comfort 4
pillion comfort 3
brakes 3
gearbox 3
controls / equipment 4
dealer backup 3
reliability 4
running costs 3
wind protection 3
ease of maintenance 4
mirrors 3
headlights 3
general impression 4
avg economy 34mpg
avg mileage 16742

now a lot of those three scores can easily be made fours like braided hoses better light bulbs double bubble screen etc so not to bad realy :D

also regular readers of mcn will have seen the helmet tests that they have been running the last few weeks wich makes very alarming reading showing that the euro helmet test is to be fair shite and that you realy are better paying the cash for an arai or shoei if you like your head 8O

Don't read it let alone vote, but I would imagine like most bike mags they have a core of "certain" motorcycle riders, note I don't know what they are so I'm not dissing anyone, but I would imagine it to be quite a biased poll.

What bikes were in the top ten then ??

Now that the dust has settled (?) dare I say that those scores look a reasonable representation to me?

We all know the shortfalls of the Storm and love them, live with them or modify them. The suspension isn't top notch and mods have been discussed at length on this forum. Pillion is a bit of a perch with no grabrail - a Triboseat (£12) makes a hell of a difference. Brakes are not GREAT, they are at best average - braided lines and different pads help. Gearbox is a bit agricultural, fuel consumption is pretty dire, a double bubble helps wind protection, mirrors give a great view of elbows, headlight is rubbish.

As Dookie says, a lot of mods are quite easy and cheap and can significantly enhance the Storm. It's not cutting edge, it's a good, characterful, do-it-all bike. That's why you bought it, right?
