Hi Guys,

As some of you know, recently i setup a model business and am after some research from you guys. If you have a spare few mins could you copy and paste the questions below:




These photos are the 1:12th scale Tamiya kit of the RC211. It is a model.

This is a petrol powered RC motorbike, and yes it does wheelie!


1. Have you heard of model kits before eg: Airfix

2. Have you built one within the last year?

3. Did you build one as a kid?

4. If you could get a model of your bike would you prefer to build it yourself or buy a pre-made one?

5. Would you consider buying a bike model as a christmas or birthday present?

6. How much would you expect to pay?

7. Would you prefer to order online or buy in person from a shop?

8. Most kits dont come with glue & paint, would you consider this a issue? If so would you prefer to pay extra for a model with paints included?

9. Please rate the RC motorbike with a cool factor of between 1 and 10, 1 being boring and 10 being you would buy one!

10. How much would you expect to pay for an RC motorbike with everything you need to get it running?

Max, Good point, although currantly my site isnt fully stocked so keeping the links dry is a good thing until the web designers do their stuff (im fed up of coding!)

as for R.C bikes nahhhhh.. i prefer the real thing..i got an unbuilt max biaggi yammy.. cant seem to get inspired enough to build it..

Did models when I was young.......now couldn't really justify cost.
have you seen the cost of nintendo DS ? my kids just cost too much to run for me to buy toys.......well real bikes anyway

no, the ammount of bikes Ive been thru would take up too much room

maybe, possibly, the boys have had rc cars, thing is market has dropped out of re-sale at the moment would probably look for 2nd hand

in pre made form eg Maitisto £10-15 for a decent scale, £60-75 for a kit eg Tamiya, Kyosho

online as generally prices better and back up good, but if i was close to the shop then it may be as easy for spares (been there done that)

not a major issue, but would consider paying the extra for glue and the right ammount of paint. Airfix do (did) little single use pots, Tamiya/Kyosho bigger pots and you only use a quarter on the build, therefore wasting money

they can be a 10 factor especially when we raced them, but watching or car park use maybe a 6

a couple of years ago RC was big with 30 members in the local club, recently down to 10, this has hit resale values and hence new prices. Otley motorsport in Otley seem to be the most competative priced on the web and shop prices arent too bad, but online do offer a discount voucher as well. we currently have the boys RC 205 for sale with RC electric all inc cant get £50 for it, mainly as they are around that for the basic kit now plus rc parts, when it was bought the kit was £90 alone.
Not sure about the nitro fueled ones as the local club insist on electric only mainly as they run indoors wintertime, also if (like 2 smokes) they are not revved they oil up and become a chore and the kid looses intrest because it spends more time being fixed.
regarding scale 1:6 is smallest for rc, 1:4 manageable for toy but if going any bigger you might as well buy a minimoto as we can buy them locally for £70 boxed new. hope this helps! [/quote]

Yeah chaz i agree, the RC and Model market is changing rapidly, its no longer a kids hobby like the old Airfix kits would surgest (Airfix & Humbrol & Heller all went broke this year). Model shops are closing everywhere and its all internet based these days.

Thats not to say its a bad market to be in, just that is radically changing!

The RC market has been swamped by cheap RTR cars and park flier planes, as you say its makes the resale value of items quite hard! An old Tamiya 70s car can be worth up to £400 but a 205 like you say is only worth pennies!

Have you tried putting it on ebay? tam cars seem to go quite well on there! (assuming its the tamiya TL01 chassis its about £45 now i think and that includes an ESC).

been on ebay 4 times, each time fails to get over 25 free ads paper nobody rings.
As an aside, just come from Shepton Mallet bike auction and classic bike autojumble, one seller was looking for £500 but reckons he will be lucky with half that also a classic BSA dealer has been studying ages of 'restorers' and they all seem 60+ no young (20-30's) buying.
