Re: thought prevoking economics
is that recycle value correct? I need to stop letting the local council take my recycling and start to sell it on e-bay Don't think so- you'd be lucky to get 1p per can, so at £1 a can x 1,000 cans that's about £10 back. Also, you'd need to set up a trade account with the metal merchant these days ...

Re: Chain Tension Issue
That's great news, now get out there and spank the ass off it I've got a week of work from 28th May & am planning to ride to Cardigan, Pembrokeshire, taking in one or two old friends along the way, not to mention some good biking routes. Only trouble is... my 13 yr old daughter wants to come (p...

Re: Number plate light not working (LED tail unit)- Any advi
So Tony kindly sorted me with a new rear light at Grainstorm. In the meantime I've pretty much confirmed that a lack of no. plate light was never going to fail me an MOT anyway. However, my lovely new super bling smoked black LED rear light with integral indicators just could! Apparently it depends ...

Re: Chain Tension Issue
All sorted for £20, most impressed with Russell Motors, Falcon Rd, by Clapham Junction Station! The drive already felt smoother after a good clean & lube as recommended by Wicky, but now feels spot on. Alarmingly, the guy who did it showed me the old rivet link with one roller sheared in half! H...

Re: Breakdown cover!
Prior to my France and Spain trip last year the only option I could find was Carole Nash (& I think other brands they trade under), but they would only do it as part of a new policy, so I ended up cancelling and then renewing my policy with them to get the breakdown cover. Other providers I trie...

Re: Chain Tension Issue
Thanks, having cleaned it I see it's a DID 530 ZVM2. The shop's going to order it, so should all be sorted on Thurs.

Re: Chain Tension Issue
For the benefit of this thread, and after conferring again with Mac, I now understand that, to remove the chain without splitting it, you have to remove the back wheel & take off the Left hand foot rest. This has to be done by lifting the rear of the bike but you can't use a paddock stand as it ...

Cheers Wicky, yes, it's due for a clean, will do (prob with parrafin)!
Sounds like that could well be the best plan, will mull it over just a little more...

Re: Chain Tension Issue
Thanks guys, I checked the chain against the rear sprocket and there's no slack except with the soft link. You can see that the space between the outer soft link and the adjacent one is much bigger than that between the other links: http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt188/miketheboy1/IMG_20160513_1...

Re: Chain Tension Issue
Cheers! I was intending to try Tony's first suggestion first- replace just the soft link as I'm pretty sure that's the issue- you can see the existing soft link is longer than the rest just by looking at it & when it goes over the sprockets the chain pulls tighter. So I think I need this: http:/...

Re: Chain Tension Issue
I'd replace the link with the correct one, and see if it improved the tension. If not, just replace chain and sprockets as a set. Cheers Tony! But more questions... Firstly, which one to buy? I've looked here http://www.motosport.com/motorcycle/drive?mmy=honda;vtr1000;1998 (scroll down most of the ...

Re: Hi from Newcastle, NSW Aus.
Hi and welcome to the forum! And what a great place for biking (aside from what seems like excessive enforcement of traffic laws compared to here). Have been to Newcastle 3 times visiting my son who's postie I proceeded to nick on the first trip followed by his ZZR250 on the 2nd. Unfortunately he'd ...
