A friendly word of warning. When buying anything of value, TV, holiday etc.
USE YOUR CREDIT CARD.
In August my holiday company went bust and I lost my hotel booking.(£2400)
Booked it on my credit card. Made a claim and within 6 weeks my card was refunded.
In July 07 I bought at TV with extended warranter. It broke and I took it back on 12/1/09
Empire direct went bust on 19/01/09. They now have my £500 and TV.
Under section 75 of the consumer credit act I have lodged a claim. (waiting for the out come)
IF I HAD MADE EITHER OF THESE PURCHASES BY CASH, CHEQUE OR DEBIT CARD ON WOULD HAVE LOST ALL MY MONEY BOTH TIMES.
USED YOUR CREDIT CARD EVERY TIME even if you have the cash in your pocket. Just pay the bill when it comes in.

Thanks Paul for the good advice, although I did actually know that.
I always make any purchase online using my credit card and not my debit card for that very reason if I need to pay by card

Chris.
guy I work with bought an Mitsubishi Evo for £8k on card, his wife went mad when he took it to Mitsu HQ in Cirencester for a service £540, the phone call from them soon sorted that.
the car was imported, had plates welded on underneath, the fuel lines had been cut to get to weld up and re joined with green garden hose. amongst other bits. He called his card company, and heard no more untill he checked his bank balance before xmas, thinking the worse , he found he had an extra £8k in there, on following up, the card company had paid him out. he waited for the seller to pick up the car as he thought they would have done as the insurance for the card company would want their money back, he thought.
anyway, a year later and he had the money refunded, still has the car, and has had it repaired.
