Just purchased a VTR1000, going to make up my own silencers ( with straight through baffles).
using a K&N type filter- looked through the search found 180 mains & notch 4 on stock needles.
Is this a popular setting?, also this bike came with a CCT problem- jumped chain, what is the cost of valves, gaskets, roughly? ( I'll make some manual CCTs )best place for parts?, thanks
what carb' settings for open cans?
Re: what carb' settings for open cans?
Cost of rebuild is roughly £120 ish for 2 new valves (usually the pair of front exhausts when mine goes) and a head gasket. Everything else is usually reusable.
Oh, and you need to get the right shims for resetting the valve clearances- most bigger shops and main dealers do an exchange service for these, swapping your old ones for the right size as long as they're servicable.
As to jetting, why not get it to a Dyno and let them sort it?
That way it'll take into account your carb wear, exhaust and filter fitted, any mods to airbox and exhaust downpipes, etc, etc. And most times they'll have a selection of jets in stock, so you can play and test, then try another setting if necessary.
And you'll get the essential printout showing 110bhp plus, for pub night.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: what carb' settings for open cans?
Thanks for your input- as to the dyno, I dynoed a Ducati 900ss after self tuning- open cans, K&N,- at TTS they found it was spot on, I quite like the tinkering about,& also the nearer you can get them the less it would cost at the dyno.
Any one have any carb' settings? thanks

Re: what carb' settings for open cans?
Some one must know what carb setting to start with?????????????
Re: what carb' settings for open cans?
Stock needles don't have notches, those are dynojet jobbies. The dynojet kit recommends 180 jets, needle on 4th notch from top and reusing stock shim and mixture screw 2 turns out from fully in.
Re: what carb' settings for open cans?
Try David Silver for your Honda parts, they're usually the cheapest
