Cars- funny who you meet driving one....

Post by tony.mon »

So for my 40th Birthday I got a track day at Brands Hatch driving a Formula First open wheeler aat the Nigel Mansell school.
This is going back over ten years.

I did the track day, had a bloody good time sliding a BMW 3-series and being assessed, learning the turn-in points and then being let loose in a little 1600cc racing car with open wheels.

They wouldn't let you use fifth, and there was a rev limit of 4000.
But I did ok, and got told off for going too fast , not braking and sliding the thing. Apparently you were meant to brake and go round gently.

But I digress......

I was going through my training certificates the other day, and found my old certificate for the day, and was going to bin it.
There, tucked behind, was the assessment that one of their guys does before you're allowed a go in the single seater on your own.

Reading it, I got 79%, and the comments from my assessor was as follows:

"Excellent effort, try to approach corners a litle slower".

It was signed by the assessor.

Funny really, but apparently Mark Webber thinks that I go into corners a bit too quick.....

(yes, that Mark Webber, Aussie guy, drives for a living somewhere now.....).
:D :D :D :D

Of course!

Whenever I drive with Mark in the car I use the techniques he showed me.

(If he's not in the car, obviously, I can do what I like).
