Well, after living in Germany for 3 years, i have finally managed to persuade the missus to let me go to the Ring, even though it is only 2 and a half hours away! The one caveat - can't take the bike But, I can take the 2.5 litre beemer instead Leaving in an hour or so, so wish me luck. I will bring back some photos!
Well, i made it, hugely exhilarating as well as frightening. The track was sodden wet and really greasy, but it didn't stop me having a good old race with an Audi S5 that was really quick on the straights but didn't know the course too well and i was catching him in all the slower stuff. Didn't have the guts to put my helmet camera on - both because i didn't want to stack it and also because i dtdnt want to get thrown out!
I am third back in the right rank in the silver BMW. Tilly (dog) and Keren came round too on my sighting lap which was cool!
Yes Chris, it was awesome. Strangely, it being wet was actually a real positive. The track was pretty empty of cars and there were no bikes to look out for, apart from some brave soul on an old Kwak. A 3 series estate isn't exactly the most suitable ringer but the old girl did very well and the wet actually brought her to life. In the dry the are very under-steery but in the wet they really come alive. I have to say that i enjoyed it beyond words and the two laps on my own - particularly following the S5 - were massively adrenaline-filled, and a couple of twitches on track were enough to tell me that i was near the limit of the car and the conditions.
