Drivechain rant - bloody sharks!

Post by cliveyandrews »

Wemoto have just sent me a chain with a spring link - as their recommended fitment for a Firestorm!

Quite franky, I'm gobsmacked.....!

I believe that you had to fit a rivetted chain to anything over 60hp (I read it somewhere but can't find it)

Now they want to charge me for a rivet.....

Can anyone help - point me to some fitting guidelines that would prove my point...?

TIA

In the Official Honda VTR1000F Service Manual (61MBB05) 3-15 – 3-18 it clearly states the Firestorm "uses a drive chain with a staked (riveted) master link." - "CAUTION: A drive chain with a clip-type master link must not be used."

Good luck using this info - and tell them to send you the rivet link pronto!

You are a Gentleman Sir!

I will indeed be using that - and the DID website too - they have very specific fitments - all rivetted!

Cheers - have a virtual beer!

I called them back today - armed with all the numbers for OFT, Trading Standards, DID Website, your diiagrams etc.....

...........and before I could start to fight they said they were putting a rivet link in the post.....

Fair play to them!

I can fully appreciate how you feel Tim about poor customer service, I should know I've had my fair share of it probably more, but I have also had good after service from a few companies I hasten to add :!:

IMHO this is what we're up against a lot of the time:- if you pay peanuts you get monkeys :plainsmile
(No disrespect to monkeys intended)

Chris.

C/A,
Glad too hear they're sending you the split link

I agree with Timbo on this point about the level of customer service, but i think there is a point being missed here, If C/A had not been"on the ball" and fitted the chain with the spring link, the result could have been catastrophic for him...
a chain parting at any speed is "not good" i know, personal experience and all that! So if C/A had unwittingly fitted the spring link, had an OFF or worse, who would have been to blame and footed the bill .....certaintly not Honda ,or DID chain company, or by putting his faith in a motorcycle dealership who's salesman can't be bothered to get off his butt and check for the correct safer parts........ere...C/A ...sorry Bud it appears to be you

For anything to do with chains and sprockets I will only ever useB+C Express. Really friendly people, superb customer service and mega quick delivery. They really know their stuff and will go out of their way to help. Good prices as well.

Wemoto are also very good as well.....quick delivery and reasonable prices.

Bad customer service? Vote with your feet.

Exactly!
My feet and my wallet do my voting. If I don't like what i see, I walk. If I don't like what I got, I just wont spend with them again. No point in getting yourself in a state. One chance, get it right, or I'll go somewhere else. Life too short to waste it on A$$holes.

Unfortunately it we Wemoto who sent me the wrong item.....

Luckily, being a Manager - I know how to be "tenacious" and get the result I want - and as stated earlier - a less experienced Biker might have been persuaded to put the spring clip on - and ended up with an "earth-sky-earth-sky-ouch" result!

It doesn't bear thinking about.....
