Marty's funeral

I can't make the funeral but it is a special day for my wife and I anyway. We will be thinking of you, Marty and Norma, as well as our own little angel. I hope that the day is a celebration of his life and all that he was worth, it was a lot.

Thankyou to Norma for letting Nutty and i be a part of your send off for Marty.

i don't think i've ever had tears of sadness in my eyes and been giggling uncontrolably.

i wasn't the only one, i looked around at our wee group and i could see everyone else was the same, we all had tears streaming and a mad grin on our faces, it was a release of emotion like i've never had before.

we were all of a similar age, i think we all knew it was the eternal joker Marty having one last laugh with us. i think some of the old folks there might have been a bit mystified at the non standard funeral but it was the perfect send off in my books.

Great too hear how Marty had a brilliant send off, I'm sure he would have been well proud

I had been thinking about you all and wondering how it was going, so now I know.

Well done to Norma and everyone who helped to organize it so well. I remember (as probably most people will of my era) so well the Ying Tong song but, was not familiar with the Porky Pig "Blue Christmas" so had to have a listen of it on YouTube. That even had me cracking up, that was really funny to me too.

Sounds like a good send off. Nothing beats a few smiles to get you through the sadness. We had Life if Brian 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' for my father-in-laws send off and he insisted we put 'See, I told you I was ill' on his head stone.
That certainly got a few surprised faces and a few smiles at his funeral, which was great because that was just what he would have wanted.

Hello Everybody

Thanks to everyone for your kind words over the last year. Being able to share our experiences with you, has helped.

I know you probably have a few plans of your own and want to do something in Martin's memory. I've heard talk of a big sponsored ride, with Martin's ashes to give him one last ride out.

I think this is a great idea, but as I know not everyone could do a massive journey, the petrol costs alone could bankrupt some of us. So I've come up with an alterntive idea. The great big bike relay. Yes a race from John O'groats, to Landsend or Stirling to Dundee, depending on the weather (just kidding).

It would consist of 2 teams, 1 batting for Marie Curie, and 1 batting for MND Scotland. I've yet to work it out, in terms of number of miles and how many per team. But the idea would be to have 2 battons, each containing some of the ashes, 1 team starting at Lands End, the other John O'Groates, with stages along the way where the batton's change hands to the next rider. It will need to be officially timed. Once complete, about 2 months after the event, we all meet up in the Lakes for drinking, ride outs and the results of the race, and then we can decide if we keep it up. Although you will be raising money for the team charity, all the money will be put together and split down the middle. Half going to Marie Curie, 30% to MND Scotland and 20% to MND UK.

My plans for Martin's ashes are to give him the funeral pyor we always talked about. The weekend closest to his birthday (24th March) there will be a party come barby at mines, with a bonfire, where Martins (most of) ashes will be scattered on the bonfire, and a barby on the embers. If I could have a wee boat that I could set alight on the loch I would, but as this is the source of the estates water supply, I don't think that would go down very well.

Anyway, watch this space , I will post accordingly. If you have any further ideas on raising money for charity or giving Martin the ride out of his afterlife, let me know.

just heard the sad news, i have not been on here for a long time, so had to look in to see if it was true and saddly it is,
i met marty for the 1st time at the meet in inverness which was a ball, after marty crashed his firestorm he never had premissis to fix her so i managed to help out at my bit, so kept in touch for a while but then lost contact with him after loosing my licence for a year

he was a real gent and the kettle was always on,

life delt the big a shite hand, R.I.P.chum gone but never forgotten

sure you will have them all laughing up where you are now
