All the cool roads are mullered. The 'Yahoo' dip in Slip End was a mess and the roads in and out of Harpenden are (in addition to the slippy meniscus-shaped six inch tar seams in the bike lane) officially boneshakers. Shame the councils did the filling on the cheap. The ice tore every cheap fill out and it's worse when they are on bends and in front of corroded mini roundabouts. It's high time that a (far) greater proportion of Road Tax is actually spent on the roads!

Still, it sharpened the senses. Moan over.

I'll tell you what has happened. All the road tax and fuel tax has been wasted by the shoot government on an illegal war, housing immigrants in million pound houses and paying dodgy expenses claims by corrupt MPs

Therefore there is no money left for the councils to carry out preventative maintenance as they should do :mad2

And what will we do about it?
To answer the question, short of revolt;
Thank Honda for the Storm.

These potholes are potentially fatal for two wheel users. I am sick to death of being ripped off at the pumps and by the "safety camera" brigade. I have two cars and two bikes (can only use one at a time) and I pay 4 x road tax etc. Its about time we fought back somehow!

BTW, I don't think all immigrants get million pound houses and I can't quite see the "immigration=potholes" argument. As for MP's expenses, ironically it was Snatcher Thatcher's regime which encouraged that system so that the salaries would be kept artificially low.

Maybe its a plot to encourage us all to use public transport. It wasn't long ago that some council admited to letting the roads get into a state of disrepair "to keep traffic speed down".

I think I might set up a No.10 petition, but can't see what difference it would make.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

I was having a pop at a number of London councils that have been all over London tv news and London papers housing immigrants with large families on million pound houses and paying high rents out of tax payers money for them. This is the tax that could/should have been used to maintain the roads. I didn't occour to me when typing that it might have just been a London news issue.

All houses will be worth a million pounds someday.....al you have to do is wait.

Same with antiques- give it a few years and you'll be able to buy antique MFI stuff on E-Bay!

Sadly the Govt saw this coming, and instead of a rolling 25-year cutoff for free road tax on 25 yo and over vehicles they've pegged it at (from memory) 1972 and older.

I have a 73 Honda SL125.

Bugger!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Just a thought, but instead of wasting all that money and tarmac on "traffic calming", basically building bloody great humps in the road to break springs and slow down emergency vehicles etc, perhaps that budget and resource could have been used to keep the roads in good order.

tell you what is an absolute b8stard....
all over the place where they've resurfaced the roads 1 lane at a time, there's nasty trenches now between lanes and along the white line.

causes a nasty wobble when you hit it, like tram lines!
