streight pipes

Post by mark skett »

just wandering has anyone ever fitted streight pipes like the cruisers instead of having cans. bet it sounds great from the twin but dont now if it would be to loud and alter the running of the bike.

There was a drunk italian riding around Mugello a couple of years ago with the cans taken off his storm. It's loud, very loud. Unpleasantly loud.

I took mine off and just ran it with the header pipes.

Not a good move in my opinion but it has to be tried just once

Soon - got the Fireblade one now - and I have an engineer to weld the 2 together - we're exploring the idea of boxing it out - then grinding the welds smooth - and a satin black powdercoat....

I need to design a tunnel for the chain - and make sure the bracing clears the caliper....

But, soooOOOOooonnn!

It'll sound awful (but loud) with straight pipes imo.

Cliveys sounds nice-but not nasty/raspy/shitty.

Case in point (obviously this is straight out the headers...)

The lads I used to run with on Buells had some nice sounding stuff-If you wanna hear loud try a Buell with a HP Exhaust/straight through Stealth or similar. Never heard anything come close tbh    Jap bikes don't hold a patch db wise.

The SP I've got sounds ace with the Microns. Just right imo. I've got to the point where I like a nice, base like boom-plus some volume-without pissing everyone off and my ear drums  Been there, done the loud as thing before.

talking of straight through pipes i have some carbon can co race pipes with link pipes if fitted will i have to alter the fuelling to suit, they are currently gold coloured and dont suit the bike so am going to scrape off the colour with a flep wheel and cut them down to stubbies. Anyone got any ideas on how to polish out the scratches left by the wheel :problem:

Get a "polishing kit" - a series of mops and different grades ofpaste. Start by sanding with wet and dry, progressively finer - finshing with 800, then 1200 grit. Then finer pastes. How far you go is upto you, but you could actually polish to a shine.... Then get them anodised, powdercoated or even heat resistant paint. I refinished the Yoshi on my old CB1100 like this - take your time and it can look awesome!!!
